I bought my Fanatic 265 about a month ago. I was happy with everything
until today.

I found there was sort of bump on the bottom of my board. It runs across
the board beneath the straps. There is no sign of anything on deck. This
bump is more like crack and raised up from there.

Anyone experienced something like this?

Sure you haven't been strapping it down too tightly on your roofrack? You've
got to make sure your bars have lots of padding, otherwise this will happen
on any modern epoxy board because the skin is so thin. It takes distributed
loads from the sailing, but point or line loading = cracks.

YES - A similar problem. My Ultra Gecko 265 delam'd - a huge
bubble formed from the mast track back about 2 feet long 18 inches
wide. Awful! It stuck out about 3/8 - 1/2 an inch. Airbrakes....

I donated it to the salvation army, and bought a custom ASD 8'6 that
weighed 6 pounds less!

I called Windsurfing Express and they said 'they'd make it up to me'
and have since not returned calls or E-mail about the 2 items I
wanted to purchase. Maybe I'll here from them one day, but I'm not
holding my breath.

Sorry you had this problem. I'm very skeptical about production
boards now.

Good luck, Walt

I have a '94 model Ultra Gecko 265. The original board developed a crease
running across the top of the board along the front of the rear deckpad. I had
only sailed the board 3 times and only in chop (no big jumps). The board was
replaced by my local dealer (Windtek, Weymouth UK) under warranty allthough I
understand that the UK importers were a bit suspicious. I haven't had any
problems with the replacement but it seems to me that the design of the
recessed deck pads (on the '94 model) produce a ridge running from one side of
the board to the other which would have the effect of concentrating stress in
this area. The deck pad design on the '95 is quite different - I wonder why?

I don't use rack to carry this board ( I just put it in my station wagon
) , so this bump is not from strapping to tight on roof rack. And I have
never hit anything with this board during trasporting it. I keep it in a
board bag and everthing too.

It is from manufacturing defect.

I took a close look at it and found that this bump has no " crack" on it.
It is a bump but no broken skin. It runs across the board. It is 20 cm
long and 5 cm wide. Location is about 70 cm from tail and on the bottom
side (not on the deck).

I called the dealer I bought from (Gone with the Wind, Micheal Roff in
Napa,CA USA). He said Fanatic probably would not do anthing about it
unless there was a broken skin where water could get inside. He also said
I have to pay the shipping. I was hoping he would take care of everything.
I will call Fanatic myself if they will do something about this.

What is covered by warranty for windsurfing board? My warranty paper from
Fanatic doesn't say much.

I'm not sure about the gecko, but the a friend of mine had a skate this
summer in Cabarete. It was several months old and he found, one day, a
heal dent next to the front deck pad. It soon opened up, so he had to
have it repaired, since he wasn't going home for a while to get the
warranty and wanted to sail. 1 week later the foot strap started to pull
out, then it finally came all the way out of the board. At that point we
all discovered that the footstrap mounts are just molded into the plastic,
not very secure if you ask me. Several other people we talked with had
experienced the same problem. Enjoy,

Sounds like a "BUCKLE" to me.... This is where the foam core has
flexed to the point where the skin "gives"... If it is a buckle, it
will soon peel the fiberglass off while your sailing or it'll
break... Sometimes it can be repaired if not too severe....... Good
Luck and Sail Safe, JD

My dealer "Gone with the Wind", Napa Ca (Micheal Roff) told me to call
Windsurfing Express. They were the importer (or distributer) of Fanatic in
USA.

But they said that they were no longer Fanatic distributer and told me to
contact with Fanatic in Germany! They said new distributer should take
care of my problem.

I think this is getting little crazy. Why do I have to call all the way to
Germany for the board I bought in USA?

I called Micheal again and left message but I haven't heard from him yet.

Funny how this works. Try calling up Windsurfing Express and tell them
you want to BUY a Fanatic board and heard they are not the Fanatic
distributor. Guess what you will hear then?

'My friend, we *ARE* Fanatic US! I can make you a killer-killer deal!'

This is NOT hear say! Call them up yourself and see.

Then call back and tell them you bought a board from them and have
a problem and you want to talk to Mickey.

Here's what you will hear next:
'He's in a meeting but will call you right back, whats your number'

Now maybe there are some extenuating circumstances I'm unaware of that
are the reason I never get calls returned (Mickey's grandma died, the
dog ate the phone number, the phone line went dead as I was giving
them my number, etc - etc) but this whole WE dishonesty thread
runs too deep to ignore.

YOSHI - GET A FRIEND TO CALL THEM AND PLAY OUT THE 'I WANT TO BUY
A BOARD SCRIPT ABOVE'..... Anyone have audio compression software/
hardware. Maybe we can make a WE Web page.

* click here to hear about 'killer-killer deals'

* click here to hear the its-not-in-warranty dance

* click here to hear magazine editors talk about shady sneaky ad tactics
(going behind editors back and getting ad copy chnaged by the printer)

* click here to hear the 'its held up in Customs' story

Sounds like it might be jump damage. Landings too hard for the
board's construction can cause the bottom to buckle, sometimes
very subtly, sometimes catastrophically.

I used to enjoy buying windsurfing stuff. It was fun.

But now these day, there are a lots of people in windsurfing industory who
care about money too much and forgot about FUN part of windsurfing.( I am
sure there are lots of good guys out there. I am just don't have luck, I
guess.)

Micheal Roff (Gone With the Wind, Napa, CA) hasn't return my call yet. (
for 8 days)

When I bought it from Micheal Roff (Gone With the Wind Napa, CA), he
said it 's OK to jump hard and land hard. He said that Fanatic said that.
Plus I have used four-five times in B & J and haven't land too hard on it.

Try Berkeley Windsurfing in Berkeley, CA. (a shameless plug). We were #1
Ezzy Dealer 2 years in a row, #1 Seatrend dealer 1995, and Bic Sport
Dealer of the year in 1993. We also carry Windwing, Gaastra, Hot, Tiga,
and all major brands of masts, booms, and accessories. I'll probably get
a lot of flack for hyping my own store on the 'net, but dammit I'm sick of
all these stories of people getting ripped off. Our phone # is
510-527-9283 and we are open every day. See Ya!
