Thanks,

Re Sandy Pt - you need a SW or W to get the speed run going.
Otherwise, any direction will pretty much do down there. A SE is
great at low tide when the middle sandbar is up.
Spring is the best time of year down there - cold but windy!

Yes! Now I'm desperate and delirious... I think the summer we just had has
tainted our expectations... I still day dream about the sea breezes. Autumn
came with such a bang and wiped out all the wind and fun :-( Definitely the
best summer I've ever had in Melbourne :-)
Don't know where rick is :-)
Forecast isn't looking good till the weekend or early next week - the
slowest moving high pressure in ten years they are saying. If it was
summer now it would be 20kn seabreezes everyday. Time to move to
Perth where the wind blows and the its still warm!
Cheers,
R

I have often thought about trying sailing at Balnarring as I have family
down there but was never sure enough about the conditions to use a day when
I could be sailing close to home on Port Phillip to check it out. Are any of
the BOM sites useful for conditions there and is there a decent place to
rig?
Cheers,
Paul

Straight outside the yacht club is a good spot on the SE or E winds -
the wind is the most consistent there on these directions.
The next little bay around towards Merricks is a nice spot at high
tide (careful of the reef - if it is low tide go to the yacht club) on
SW, SE or S. On the point with Merricks there is often some small
waves - good first intro to waves. There is a big reef that runs a
fair way around the bay which makes it a safe spot to windsurf and to
learn. There are usually a few guys out here most times of the year.
Try rigging up outside the camping site on the beach - 2nd left after
the general store.
At either spot the water is very flat at low tide.
If you are doing any kitesurfing the spot outside the yachtclub is
getting quite popular - guys driving from Melbourne to avoid the
crowds.
The best indicator of wind is Sth Channel Island wind or HMAS Cerberus
(on the hr) - http://www.ozwind.com.au/newstuff/vic02.php3. In summer
the seabreazes are always around 5 knots less down there.
I might catch you out there.
Cheers,
Michael
