I am interested in getting a second hand board and am especially
interested in some of the following boards which one would you think
would suit me the best .
BIC Vivace 270 (£225 $400)
BIC Vivace 282 (£220 $350)
BIC Hardrock (£200 $320)
BIC Astrorock (£195 $310)
AHD Slalom 272 (£270 $430)
Alpha COMPTEC 282 (£45 $70)
Alpha 282 (£95 $150)
F2 Sunset Slalom 270 (£50 $80)
F2 Sunset Race 280 (£125 $200)
BIC Electirc Rock 265 (£100 $160)
This has turned out to be a pretty long list but i guess it gives you a
wide range of boards to choose from (it doest have to be on the list)

But first a bit of information on the area around me. i have only
windsurfed on lakes and at the moment only intend to do that although i
am planning to go to the sea sometime this year. i can use a
harness and am attempting to use the footstraps whenever possible. The
wind strength is not great and so when i go windsurfing it is only light

to medium winds of around force 1-5. i am actually hoping to go out in
some of the stronger winds when i am a more accomplished sailor. i have

a range of sail from a 4.5, 5.5, 6.0, and a 6.5. this is going to be
my first short board and have only sailed on relatively big boards. My
forst board was a Tiga Fun Cup or otheriwse known as the Tiga F'ck Up
after that i went on to a Mistral Espace and next a BIC Melody all of
these were bought by my dad thisis going to be my first board i have
bought so i want to think about this very carefully. i am around 57kg
and am only 13 so still have a big of growing to go. i can only afford
a second-hand board as i am buying it myself and have
decided to go for a price range of FREE - 250 (i think that's about
$400). My Dad has recommended a board of about 120l personally i think
this would be a bit big. I would like to get a board of around 270-295
but am not sure if i could use a 270. Using what i have said would this
choice be good or bad?.

i would like to thank you in advance

Good news. Almost the cheapest board in that list is also one of its best
selections. The E-Rock will carry all those sails well, is a great machine to
learn jibing on, will take forever to outgrow, and is MUCH easier to sail than
the Vivaces and generally/arguably outperforms them. It floats light adults
like a cork, yet sails quite well WAy beyond wind range you anticipate. A 73-kg
friend of mine raced his with a 6.5, learned to loop it on a 3.5, and can slog
it anywhere, anytime, in any direction, with any sail size in that range.

It's a classic.

Perfect board. Easy to sail, quality performance. You can grow into
it. And it's cheap. Just check the durability on it.

Expensive, quite hard to sail.

> BIC Vivace 282 (£220 $350)

Expensive, also race oriented, needs the right fin for any performance

> BIC Hardrock (£200 $320)

Way overpriced for an ancient board like that, otherwise the shape is
nice.

> BIC Astrorock (£195 $310)

A bit on the big side but a nice board if condition justifies price.

> AHD Slalom 272 (£270 $430)

Not sure, probabely quite race oriented and fragile.

> Alpha COMPTEC 282 (£45 $70)

How old is this beast ?? Could be ok if not dinged up too bad.

> Alpha 282 (£95 $150)

Same as above ?? Is this the same shape as the Fanatic Ray 282 ?
If so, it's also made for going straight but easy to control
and not too bad in the jibes.

> F2 Sunset Slalom 270 (£50 $80)

A classic. If it's in decent shape (look at the seams, they tended to
split in the early versions) it would be my favorite. Also look at the
fin box: If it's still a Euro box instead of the Powerbox,
make sure that it's in good shape and you don't overload it with
too big of a fin (up to 32 cm or so is definitely ok).

> F2 Sunset Race 280 (£125 $200)

Harder to sail but hardly faster than the Sunset Slalom.

> BIC Electirc Rock 265 (£100 $160)

Also a classic. maybe a bit short for around the lake but
if in good condition a candidate.

Other shapes which should be available fairly cheap could include the
Fanatic Rat (if you don't sail vodoo chop), the F2 Xenon, Hifly 275 (the
model with 95 liters is probabely too smal but there was one with around
105 some time ago), maybe the Bic Presto (a bit one-dimensional).
Also maybe a Mistral Screamer
