Hello,

I am new to this sport, I have been sailing every summer for the
previous 2 years (couldnt get away this year :( ). I have only had
about 3 lessons but my balance is good and I can steer, tack and kinda
gybe (in a messy way). I am 6'5 and 100kg.

I have been looking into buying my own equipment for a little while,
but i am not sure what to buy. I have found two boards in my price
range and local area but I feel i need a second opinion.

The boards are:

Mistral Competition SST with 2 sails (RAF wave slalom lite, Mistral
6.3)
Bic Lambada with 1 sail (BIC SPORT SLALOM SAIL 5.70 4 BATTEN)

I am likely to sail inland in the UK and take the board with me to
Cyprus in the summer where it may spend the rest of its days (so I can
use it when I go for holidays) But if UK surfing is not too cold I
will leave it here and get another one for Cyprus at a later date.

Any help would be appreciated,

Much Thanks,

Onur

Between those boards, I suggest the Competition SST. It is a very durable
board with a decent design. It also will accommodate heavier than average
sailors very will. The Lambada is a slightly newer design but never
considered a particularly good one.

Newer boards that are much wider will prove better, but between those you
mentioned I'd get the Mistral.

Onur, UK windsurfing is not too cold!
There are plenty of us who do it all year round and I can appreciate not
everyone wants to do it from December to March, even with the right
clothing, but from now until the middle/end of November is great, the water
is warm even when days are cooler.
Get out there and enjoy yourself, life is too short.
Regarding board choice I agree with Dans comments, especially about more
modern, wider boards but don't let that put you off. Older, narrower boards
make for a steeper learning curve but at least teach good foot placement
that will stand you in good stead forever, and a lot of us learned on those
types of boards successfully.

Rgds,
Pete

This morning i was informed about a BiC Veloce on offer aswell.
Should I consider this one or is the Mistral the best deal?

Thanks for the Info! I decided not to buy a board in the end and just
joined my local sailing club:

http://www.btycsailsports.org.uk/

They were polite, friendly and full of advice. I reccomend them to
any would be sailor beginner or advanced.
