Hi Larry,
I saw your letter in "newsgroups" and am hoping that this gets to
you and also gets posted. We distribute Ezzy Sails for the U.S. and also
have a store (Windance Sailboards in Hood River). After reading your
description of the problems that you had with your sail, it seems to me
that you may not have had enough downhaul tension. Not enough downhaul
tension will cause the sail to feel heavy, "pull like a tractor", and
have a lousy top end. Downhaul tension basically causes the mast to
bend- the more downhaul, the more the mast bends making the leading edge
of the sail flatter. With insufficient downhaul, the mast pushes the
cambers back towards the clew putting too much shape in the front of the
sail, causing the battens to over-rotate, and in extreme cases even
breaking the battens. Tuned properly with the correct mast, the sail
will have great low-end power, and also great top end speed. At the
recent trade show here in Hood River, David Ezzy spent most of his energy
demonstrating how to rig sails and we discovered that the number one
mistake that dealers (miself included) were making was too little
downhaul.
With regards to the 4 mil. monofilm in your sail, we only put
this in the center panels of the larger 1996 transformers. For 1997,
there is no 4 mil. monofilm in any Ezzy Sail. I want to make sure that
you and everyone who buys an Ezzy is totally stoked with it, so please
give Rob or me a call at 1(541)386-8717, or David Ezzy at 1(808)575-2566.
We will do whatever is necessary to make sure you are a happy Ezzy
customer. If you would like,we will take your old one in on a trade, and
sell you a new 1997 sail. If for some reason you are not elated with it,
you can send it back to us used for a full refund. This 30 day money
back guarantee goes for anybody who buys a 1997 sail. Again, feel free
to give us a call anytime.
