I'm thinking about getting a Simmer sail. Anybody have any comments
about Simmer. Are they good quality? Durable?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Stiv,
Simmer Sails are very well designed, lightweight, and durable high
performers since 1983. I heard during WindFest in the Gorge this year,
that Anders Bringdal just tore through everyone using a 9.0m2 Simmer
Zero7 and one of his slalom boards, from the new A+B line
(we will be handling them).

For reviews of the 2002 Reef, Wave Comp, and Onshore :
http://www.windsurfingmag.com/eBrochure/Main/1,2967,8-1-2-17947-15,00.html

Here are reviews of the 2002 Simmer Zero5 and Zero7 appearing in the
latest Windsport mag:
Note the price point of the 2002 Simmer Zero5's.

SIMMER ZERO FIVE 5.9
+ performs through a wide wind range

LUFF: 446 cm
BOOM: 176-177 cm
BATTENS: 5
CAMS: 0
MAST USED FOR TESTING: Powerex Z-Wave 430/21
SUGGESTED RETAIL: $349

Simmer is poised to make a strong comeback in North America with a new
distributor and an attractive price for the Zero Five. As its name
suggests, the Zero Five is a lightweight, five-batten freeride-freemove
made entirely of monofilm. The Zero Five is well-balanced for cruising in
the footstraps and has enough stability to
keep the sail sheeted in through big gusts. The Zero Five can be tuned
to match different conditions and riding styles. The draft can be placed
low in the sail when set to the maximum downhaul and outhaul marks or
placed higher in the sail when rigged with less tension. As with any
scalloped leech, over-downhauling can result in
leech flutter, which disappears when you back the downhaul tension off
slightly. This tunability allows the Zero Five to meet the needs of both
manoeuvre-oriented sailors as well as freeriders. It doesn靖 have the
throw-ability of the pure freestyles, though being comparable at all
proves that the Zero Five has a light feel and
buttery rotation.
Bottom line: Excellent combination of performance and value.

SIMMER ZERO SEVEN 5.9
+ most stable and incredibly fast when overpowered

LUFF: 445 cm
BOOM: 181-182 cm
BATTENS: 7
CAMS: 0
MAST USED FOR TESTING: Powerex Z-Speed 430/21
SUGGESTED RETAIL: $450

The Simmer Zero Seven is designed for maximum speed and minimum rigging
time. The seven-batten no-cam零 quest for speed is immediately
noticeable on the water, with this sail having the stiffest feel of the
tested sails. No matter how much wind, this sail remains stable and
doesn靖 get distorted or fly out of control. If you
have the guts to hang on, the Zero Seven is easy to keep sheeted in and
will take you as fast as you want to go. The tradeoff is less low-end
power. The same stiffness that makes the top end so impressive keeps the
sail shape flat until there零 solid breeze. If you consider that this
sail is more stable than many camber-induced sails, the Zero Seven零
rotation is impressive. However, compared to the other no-cams, the
rotation is not quite as smooth. This sail poses no
problems rigging, and the recommended settings are a good starting
point.
Bottom line: When the wind picks up, there零 no need to re-rig; this
sail is just getting started.

i have only one simmer sail- 6.2 onshore wave from 2001. It replaced my 6.5
& lets me sail until its 5.5. Very stable w/ excellent range from low to
high. The sail is very durable. I have seen the other simmer sail lines &
they are definitely some of the best performers out there. Get one or test
one- you'll see.

Cheers, Slambo

Wow Wardog - you got it nailed down don't you? You sailing Simmer's??? ;)
YAAAA.Duhhhhh.

...described the Zero Seven perfectly. It's one heck of a fast sail - and
it handles a lot of wind like a race sail. Let's see, I own the following
models:

* Pro Am (now Pro Race??)
* Zero-Seven
* On Shore
* Wave Comp
* REEFr

That's says something - and for anyone looking for a great sail for whatever
conditions there's a Simmer for you.

Hate to have to sound so "hypish" but when I'm on the water with them I feel
confident to go for it.

Stiv,
Go for it and feel free to ask about my experiences with them off line. As
far as durability - they may not be the most durable sail out there but
they're certainly not going to fall apart on you - at least none of mine
have in the 2 plus years I have on them. Oh, by the way have liked Ezzy's,
Aerotech, Neil Prydes, Sailworks too - so no dis to others out there. I
have the most experience with Simmer's now and just really like them all.

As far as a 1-sail-for-everything ... that's hard to judge. Maybe a few
more specifics like where do you sail? Type of board and type of sailing in
general you prefer.

Hope that helps.

The Simmer Reefs will go head to head for durability and performance
with ANY wave sail on the market, that's why we are on them for Jalama,
they are holding up quite well at the more Northern spots in Central
Cali (A.L., D'Port, Waddell, O.B.), Pistol and Hatteras as well:

Anders Bringdal, Keith Taboul, Kai Katchadorian, Robbie Seeger and
others use them at Jaws as big as it gets...

The Zero7 is very well made with lots of fine "touches" to help avoid wear
and tear. Zero7's are slippery, with good twist and shape, and are fast
with good upwind speed as well. I had a small issue with one, but the
dealer and distributor went to extra lengths to get it put right. That is
always an important thing for any product. Thanks Wardog, for standing
behind your sail sale.

I sail a 3.7 wave comp that I love. Very durable and rangy.
