from November through March the conditions are mostly wave, from entry level
to radical days depending on the intensity of the storms.
The best wave, most regular, a long, point break - perfect right come with
the west, northwest storms. Excellent down the line wave sailing. Side,
side-off.
The South-west brings a high, powerful, fast but not as clean swell. A bit
more difficult. Side-on.
Usually we sail down wind 300-400 meters to get a better wind angle and
cleaner wave.
The East and south east winds quickly bring up a wave even though it's a bit
irregular, but nice ramps for jumping. However as the wind reaches 30 knots,
again 400-500 meters down wind the conditions get much nicer with a cleaner,
longer and father apart waves, good for wavesailing.
The North is a bit off, but after 2-3 days of South east and the wind the
next days goes to North it creates some incredible wave conditions with
long, straight bars!
The last 2 directions are no good, the south is straight on and the sea is a
mess; the north-east does not reach our coastline.
Spring-summer time, April - May -June and July, the conditions are created
mostly by the thermal winds which it means that are more easy going:
freeride - freestyle or with small waves when small storms break though the
high pressure and come in.
Hope I gave you the right idea of our conditions, if you haven't done yet
stroll through the web site or contact me for more detail info!
Ciao,
Thomas

I hope Thomas does not mind me jumping in here to add a few comments
about Puzziteddu. Since I was fortunate enough to live in Sicily from
2000-2003 I was able to sail Puzziteddu multiple times. It is truely a
fabulous and world class windsurfing spot but Thomas can tell you all
about that. There are lots of very talented local sailors and a good
winsurfer camraderie to welcome you as well.
What I would like to add is that besides the great windsurfing,
Sicily's 3000 years of history makes it an incredible place to visit
as well. There are numerous great historical and archeological sites
withing 30 minutes to an hour drive from Puzziteddu such as the ruins
of the ancient Greek city of Selinute just to the east, the incredible
Greek temple, theater and ruins of Segesta to the Northwest; and
nearby that, Erice. Erice is an beautiful medieval town located
almost 2000' above Sicily's North West coast and just North of the
coastal city of Trapani. It features one of the best Norman castles
on the whole island as well as an incredible view of the Mediterranean
sea and the surrounding countryside below. Then just a little way
farther northeast is Monreal, one of the most beautiful and well
preserved Norman era cathedrals in all of Europe covered in Gold leaf
on the inside. It is just south of the city of Palermo with history
and places to see too numerous to mention here. Also, if you want to
venture further some additional recommended sites to see are: Mt.
Etna, the largest active volcano in Soutern Italy at almost 11,000
above sea level, the historic cities of Siracusa, Messina, more greek
ruins at Agrigento, the amazing mosaic art of the "Villa Romano",
beautiful beaches, rugged mountains, off shore islands, and the
incredible turquoise blue waters of the Mediterranean too.
Of course half the fun of going to Sicily is just sampling and
enjoyed the great Sicilian cuisine and wines. In fact the beautiful
seaside town of Mazara del Vallo, just west of Puzziteddu, is the home
to one of the largest fishing fleets in Italy and as a result, offers
every kind of delicious seafood imaginable. Don't forget to try in
the morning the Sicilian cannoli and a cappucino too!
So even if you get a few days of light wind, or have just need a
break from the waves, surf, and wind, of Puzziteddu, there is plenty
else to do to keep you occupied.
Buon viaggi e' windsurfing a Sicilia
