I am looking for information on fins : theory, different foil-shapes,
R & D, production etc., anything that has to do with the development
of fins.
Regards Fin-mann

Hey now, fin_mann!
My name is WARDOG and I'm a fin addict......Chuck Ames (True Ames Fins)
lives around the block and his factory is in town so I am like a kid in a
candy store! I have developed my line of wave fins (WARDOG WAVE) with
progressive twist like sails and have a surf/slalom line also (A.T.X.).
When George Greenough lived here, I would talk with him for hours about
fins.....
Bill Kline will talk your ear off about Curtis Fins.....
Mike Tinkler and Stan Pleskunas are also knowledgeable and
innovative........
These url's are a few of the ones I have:

Dearest Ellen,
I am trying to come to "grips" with my self-admitted problem. I am no longer in
denial.
My problem is a little different ,perhaps, than the other guys' problem(s) that
you have encountered in the past. I am not an "anal fin tweaker", I don't spend
inordinate amounts of time sanding every little microscopic blemish on my
fins, nor am I suffering from a mid-life crisis where I buy the biggest, fastest
fins available for my hotrod board(s).......my problem is one where I never
seem "satisfied" with fin performance and constantly want to improve my
"connection" to the H20........I also have a multiple fin complex....you see, I
ride tri-fin sailboard and surfboards......I am doing better now, thank you
very much, at one point in time I rode 5 fin boards....Bonzers and Bonzer
spin-offs.......now I can get by with just 3 fins.
I can remember the happy days when I was a kid, though, I rode single
fins....never moved them from the position whence they came and never changed
them, no matter how damaged they were.........Oh ,to be a kid
again.............
WARDOG (recovering fin addict)

Dear Wardog,
So glad to hear that you are no longer in denial! 'Fessing up really
helps get past some of the problem. But there are dangers.
You have, however, brought out aspects of fin addiction that I had not
yet fully experienced, "tweakerism" for one. You clearly have "Multi-Fin
Complex B" since you have boards that make use of more than one fin.
This could get out of hand quickly if not watched carefully. I suggest
some sort of finicide application.
Recently, I exchanged personal email with another of our esteemed
rec.ws community, and attempted to warn him against the dangers of
reckless fin acquisition and storage. In our household (2 windsurfers, 2
vans, 2 sets of gear), we have encountered the "Multi-Fin Complex A"
whereby enough fins are acquired without disposing of the old ones, in a
certain amount of time, that the old ones can make it to breeding stage
and then the problem begins. A critical mass of fins is able to
establish a breeding population and they begin to reproduce at random.
Soon you begin to find them under the sofa, in the bureau, under the
sink, in the garage, behind your shoes, and in all shapes, sizes and
colors. No matter how many you get rid of, more appear to take their
places. Sort of like the Sorcerer's Apprentice in Fantasia.
The problem with this is that they don't produce new, improved fin
designs! One still has to go out get those. Thank goodness we don't have
to feed or walk or clothe them!
I, too, remember the days when a fin was merely something that I
whacked my shins against on the beach, or naively thought the pretty
colors and shapes were amusing but not important.
Good luck with your treatment, and I wish you continued success with
your withdrawal program.
Ellen

The support group for "finatical behavior" helps a bunch ,also (so does the
medication).

It is too late, as my wife has the infection with her 2 tri-fin sailboards......

Kind of like the more there are ,the more there are, the more the merrier (oops, that
was an uncontrolled subconscious thought bubbling to the surface)

I have insured mine against alien impregnation......even though I have never sailed
New Mexico.
