I would like to know the difference between the three different types I am
considering buying. I would like to buy either vhs-c, 8mm, or Hi8. I want
to know which is the best one to own. I would like to go right from the
camcorder to the vcr. Please HEEELLLLPP.
Thanks,
Chris B.

Chris, I believe the answer you are seeking does not involve dubbing to the
VCR. I believe that what you meant was direct playback. 8mm and Hi-8 require
you to connect the camcorder to either the VCR or TV and use the camcorder
itself as the playback device. VHS-C tapes drop into a cartridge that is the
same size as a regular VHS tape and it plays right in your VCR. 8mm and VHS-C
are of a similar quality. Hi-8 is a higher resolution format like SVHS. 8mm
tapes record for up to two hrs. VHS-C tapes come in 30 and 40 minute lengths.
Using slp mode will allow 90 and 120 minutes of recording time with some
picture degradation just as when you use slp on your VCR. I find the 30 and 40
minute tape lengths to be quite sufficient. When I feel that I may need a
longer recording time I use 30 minute SVHS-C tapes. These are a higher qulity
than standard high grade tapes and there is no noticable drop off in video
resolution to the naked eye when I record on them in slp.

Chris, it depends on the budget, I've a sony dv pc1 (it's now a pc2 already
and better for the same price ;-(( ).
Donı buy a vhs-c, they finished, Hi8 is much better quality than 8mm, so
depending on the budget in your shoes I should go for a dv or a hi8
