As I know that there are PAL, NTSC and (MESECAM & SECAM), I was just
wondering what is the different between MESECAM and SECAM. I know
some of the mulit VCR has PAL, NTSC and SECAM or PAL, NTSC and
MESCAM. Does that mean if I have a MESCAM tape I cannot watch in a
SECAM VCR? I am asking because I am thing to purchase a mulit VCR
but I want to make sure this before I go for it. Also is there any
one out there using a mulit VCR that is good quality? Thanks.

MESECAM (Middle East SECAM) differs from SECAM D,K by audio subcarrier
frequency in RF signal. Audio and Video signals are the same.

If you've got a MESECAM tape and you play it on a SECAM VCR you
get black & white - also vice versa. There are a couple of significat
differences, although the basic idea of SECAM is in both. Reason is,
since the french SECAM uses quite a lot of U.S. patents, MESECAM as
used not only in the Middle East but mainly in most former communist
countries like Soviet Union, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Romania etc.
tried to get around this. Most important difference: different color
carriers. If you want both - SECAM and MESECAM in one machine - go
for the Panasonic AG-W1 VCR with integrated standards converter for
NTSC - PAL - PAL-M - SECAM - MESECAM at around $1,700.

If you get the Sharp VC-WD1, you will have a fully normal VCR
with tuner, timer and everything, but with a digital standards
converter integrated at also around $1,700, but it only has NTSC -
PAL - MESECAM. French or greek tapes recorded in SECAM will result
in b&w, certainly also after conversion to NTSC.

I do own both machines, so ask if you want to know more.

Wolfgang

"Audio and video signals are the same."

Supposedly some of the SECAM countries use a different color sync signal from
that used in France; unfortunately I don't have any definitive information on
which countries are involved, or how much compatibility there is between
the two.

Thanks for every one for the info. It is what I need to know.

I got just a few more question to ask is that the about VCR give
good quality? If the VCR is playing a SECAM tape, will it convert
to NTSC and show it on TV? Because I have a NTSC TV. Also Do those
VCR have Hi-Fi stereo? What I am really looking for is a VCR which
can play all kinds of different system tapes and convert it to other
system before it sent to TV. I know there is one out on the market
which I forgot which menufactory but I remember the look of the VCR
is silver color and there is a world map on the front of the cover
where you open the cover and put the tape in. Does it ring a bell?
