I got a Polaroid battery that says it is compatable with Sony Info-Lithium
batteries. However, when I put it on my camcorder, the camcorder says "For
InfoLithium Batteries Only" amd shuts itself off.

Can anyone confirm any 3rd party batteries that will work? I tried Energizer
batteries yesterday, and they wouldn't even charge.

thanks
Corey

That's tough. I think Sony has made their products very tightly
integrated, with little room for third party ones.

There seem to be good ones from www.batteryserve.com that are compatible.

Why not simply use the Sony batteries?

I use Optex batteries that work fine in my Sony TRV-320. I believe
Duracell makes them too but I don't know if they're actually *Info*
Lithium (the difference being the chip inside the battery that the unit
talks to).

I agree with the other poster though: why not just use Sony
batteries? The third-party ones save you at best $10-20.

well, I thought I was getting a deal on batteries, since both the Energizer
and Polaroid batteries are being closed out, and I get them for $30 each.

I have decided to go with the Sony batteries, since I know they work.

Early Sony units did not detect a non-sony battery. Many newer Sony units
do, and will power up only long enough to display the [you got taken]
message. I suspect this is why there is close-out pricing of late on these
3rd-party batteries.

I feel I should point out once again that there are still some third-party
batteries which work. The Optex ones I have work. They call it "Lithium
Info" and these batteries do provide the chip and communications with the
camera so you know how long the battery will last.

But again, the battery didn't cost me a whole lot less than the real Sony
ones (although it did come with a handy charging sled)

yea, I looked at the Optex batteries, but they're the same price as the Sony
batteries from B&H.

In Radio Shack, the Polaroid (for Sony) batteries were on closeout at $27 and
since it was for an older
Sony model, it worked fine. The Radio Shack battery was $50, but both looked
like they came from
the same manufacturer.

I had a bad experience charging an Optex battery. It came with a
"small" charger and it took foooorever to charge. The battery may be
OK but that charger..... A regular charger may be OK. Don't know.
Myself, I stick to Sony batteries. I get them when they go on sale
somewhere (amazing how much you can save).
