I have been doing a research in different camcorder models for buying
my first camcorder. I decided to go for Sony Mini DV models, though a
bit pricey . After comparing with existing MiniDV models of Sony, I
got a feel that a better low light performance can be achieved by DCR
TRV 40-80 models (2003 models) than by the new HC lineups of 2004.
Atlast I ended up deciding to go for DCR TRV 60, ditching the topline
minidv HC cams like DCR HC85.
Even now I doubt about my choice since HC cams are the latest and are
supposed to give better results. Low light performance and good video
quality and average still qualities are the basic features i'm looking
for. So whether my choice is good or not ?
Please shed more light into this subject.....

I bought a TRV22 a year ago for what I expected would be simple filming.
However, a year on and I'm making more demands on the camera, and I'm
pleased that my TRV22 has an earphone socket which allows me to monitor what
the internal (or now and more likely, external) mike is picking up.
The HC range do not have earphone sockets, - wouldn't have bothered me a
year ago, but now it's the first thing I check.

Other than this there is no particular difference between these models
? HC series is found to be reduced in ccd size considerably. So how
abt the low light performance of this new 2004 series ? should be
theoritically less. The best one in the HC series - HC 85 - has 0.27
in ccd but was reported to have some chroma noise problem in some
pieces. sony promised to rectify these problems in HC 88. is it
launched or not ?
