I am in the middle of a hellish purchase experience with a NY
mailorder shop called Marine Park (www.mpsuperstore.com)

They were rated by CNET on shopper.com as a "Certified
Merchant" so I thought they would be on the up-and-up, but I'm not
so sure now.

What's happened so far:
- Ordered camera last Friday with overnight shipping. Price $2099
- Because it was late in the day they said I had to buy their GL1 "kit"
if I wanted it overnight. Price $2499
- Was sold an extended waranty - 4 years parts and labor "on
sight" (I assumed that meant they'd pay shipping) Price $299

- Due to a UPS screw-up, I didn't get the box until Monday (Marine
Park is closed on Saturdays and I couldn't get the tracking number
friday)

- The GL1 had no serial number on the body and the one on the
box had been torn off.
- The extended warranty certificate (from www.mackcamera.com)
said shipping was not included
- The kit included filters ($250 for 3!) that were the wrong size (too
big),a cheap, softsided bag that was too small ($99 for a bag I can
get at Best Buy for $20) and $30 for a tiny bottle of lens cleaner a
few q-tips and a tiny cloth.

- Customer service said they would exchange everything (new
camera, upgraded bag and correct filters), they gave me a UPS
shipping number to overnight the package back to them and they
would ship the new package the same day.

- They got the package Tuesday but their warehouse, supposedly,
screwed up and my package wouldn't get shipped until
Wednesday. They said they would call me Wed afternoon with the
tracking number.

- Wed, cust. svc. never called so I tried to call them but they had
closed early and are closed until Monday for Easter.
- Sales was still open and first said they couldn't help me, but a
second call got them to transfer me to a manager who said the
computer showed my package shipped - no tracking numbers
though. They said that shipping's computers don't update theirs
until after 6PM. (they close at 6PM and also would be closed for
Easter until, oddly, Sunday)

- No package came on Thursday, so to cover my butt I ordered one
from eCost (which came in promptly Friday morning)

- It's now Friday and no GL1 from Marine Park

Needless to say, I will be demanding a refund.
(I'll post here again with how well that goes)

Hope this saves someone a lot of greef!

-Eric S.

Marine Park is notorious for problems. I wouldn't be surprised if they
didn't try and charge you a restocking fee.

Call your credit card company and dispute the charge at once. If the unit
gets there, refuse it and let UPS ship it back to them. Explain to them
what happened and that your were shipped non-new non legitimate equipment
(if the serial number was removed). Do this before they hit you with the
restock charge. Go on the offensive
first.
