I do not own a u67, I have a U82, but I can tell you this:
You toucha' my 82, and I killa your bod. Plain and simple. You can
have my wife, my kids (don't have any), my dogs, but stay away from
my Mits.
As you can tell, I like it. It's a solid product. blazing FF/REW, instant
load, noiseless effects, solid construction, 8 billion inputs and outputs,
and a whole lot more.

I own an earlier model, #U61, and I agree about 95% with the above
sentiments...
except, I have a CAT rather than a wife.....
(also, the U61 deosn't quite have all the features)

I've used a Mitsi B82 SVHS VCR (PAL) and I have a HS-M55b VHS (PAL) VCR.
Mitsis tend to be very speedy VCR's whopping my Panasonic SVHS FS88b for speed
and user friendlyness. The pictures are good on both mitsis I've used. The
only slight problem I've noticed is that when single frame advancing or slo mo
it only shows every alternate field unlike the panasonic which shows all 50
fields in one second. The timers on mitsis are easy to set as well.
Infact I'm happy with both my VCR's but the mitsis are nicer to use than
panasonics but the panasonics are getting better and the results they give are
slightly better....

I have two! They're great! Using an edit cable between them (standard
RCA) you can get frame accurate cuts and inserts most of the time
(sometimes it may be off by a frame and very rarely even two) if you
compensate by advancing 2 frames on the edit-in and edit-out points.
The cuts are perfect. Very clean. Extended editting in one session
(>12 hrs?) without using a cooling fan may lead to some slight rainbow
(herringbow?) patterns being recorded on cuts. So use a fan when the
thing starts overheating (or stop for the day). Oh, and to ensure
accurate inserts, use the shuttle to frame step back to the edit-in
point, and do this carefully. It loses accuracy of frame counts when
doing sudden jogging. The fast-forward and rewind is fast. 250x w/o
picture and 15x w/ picture. Pauses are great. Pretty clean, although
they do show only one field of the frame. 2x playback isn't perfectly
clean, but it's pretty good.
If you have any specific questions, e-mail me. I'm sure I must have
missed some details which are of interest.
BY THE WAY, DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT THE MITSUBISHI EDIT JACK PROTOCOL IS?
Is it compatible with any other manufacturers? (Control-l (lan-c),
control-s, etc?)

Don't worry, I wouldn't bother....:-)
But seriously, Mits does make the best line of (s-)VHS products. If you're
into that stuff, go for it.

I've also had real good luck using Fuji A/V Pro tape in SVHS mode.
That is after punching a little hole in the tape. The quality isn't
quite up to that of a high quality SVHS tape, but still better than
standard VHS.

I have a HS-U80 and it is wonderful. Makes me hate every other
VCR I've seen.

My opinions are my own.
Are you sure the HS-U67 is SVHS? I thought that was the model that I
just bought. Oh well, I can't really remember. I LOVE my Mitsubishi,
and like Phil, it makes me hate any others. The manual is wonderful -
something like 160 pages 8-1/2 x 11, and is written in english by a
native english speaker (even though that last sentence doesn't say
much about my writing skills).
Things I really like:
- super rewind - 250 times normal speed
- time search
- blank tape search
- hit rewind while high speed rewind, and it slows down and scans with
picture.
- pause review - pause during a commercial, then use the wheel to back
up frame by frame to the last "good" part, ready to start recording
again.
Although you are probably too late for it, Mitsubishi just had a one
year free financing deal that I took advantage of.

However, am I the only one bothered by the controller from hell? I
greatly resent having to set up my search-to-time by twirling the jog shut-
tle wheel. When it kicks into overdrive I often end up overshooting my
target time by about an hour, which is far enough that it kicks into over-
drive as I come back to the target, which means that ... Also on my long
list of complaints about that controller is the hiding of the number but-
tons and a couple of other useful buttons behind a cover. I know, I could
permanently remove the cover, but there's something aesthetical displeasing
about that.
Still, overall I've been quite happy with this VCR so far. Its auto-
tracking on my 12-year old tapes recorded in LP mode is amazing.

I have a U61 S-VHS recorder, and Love it. I have had no trouble
with it, it has delivered excellant performance, and it has
had megga tapes run through it. I use EP and get better copies
from a Laser Disc than those I rent on SP from the video store.
You actually see the vertical scratches in the film, rather than
horizontal scan lines of the VCR. We have a 50" TV so the extra
resolution makes a big difference.
Please email me directly since I do not read this newsgroup.
