Some of the drawbacks of the AV1020 were that it used the surround channel amp
to drive the speakers in the 2nd room. Since these are limited to 10W, you
can't drive much with them.
I'd consider the Pioneer VSX-5600, for about the same price, but its remote is
not programmable... The Sony's is. I know, one can always buy a seperate
programmable remote, but I haven't found one of those yet that wasn't a chore
to use. I'm buying this for my parents, they are not, shall we say,
technically inlined. VCR+ types, to be exact.
Any inside info on wheter the new Sony unit is worth waiting for?

What is this dual room link feature?

How about the VSX-5700S? It's a 5600 with a programmable remote. It's
about $60 more (or rather, that't how much more it was when I was
shopping a few weeks ago).

The dual room link allows you add a second (or third if you have a surround
setup) pair of speakers in another room which can play a different music
source than the main speakers. For example, you could be watching and
listening to Indiana Jones in your living room while your girlfiend listens
to her favorite FM radio station in the bedroom. A second remote control
is used in the other room.

Aren't the surround amps used for the dual room link?? I don't think
you can listen to a surround-sound program in one room and a different
program in the other.
