Betamax tapes worth anything?

I've got at least six file boxes of Betamax tapes that have old 1980s
American TV shows on them. Are the tapes themselves worth anything or
would anyone be interested in them at all? I also have some
commercially recorded Betamax movies, mostly old SF and action stuff.

I have not owned a Betamax machine for over fifteen years, so these all
date to before 1990. They have been stored in decent conditions, so
they may still be playable. I hate to just trash them if anyone is
interested in using them.

My best hope is that someone would trade a limited amount of transfer
of a few Betamax tapes to DVD in return for the tapes, but that is
probably just wishful thinking....

I am in North Florida if that helps make a decision, though for the
right trade, I'd pay shipping to get a transer deal.

If anyone has any interest, please eamil me at
csziggy(at)earthlink(dot)net.
Thanks!

I can't help you with the trade but if you want to sell them just put them
on E Bay. I sold a bunch a few months back. Didn't make much but I felt
better to have someone use them than to add them to the local land fill.

Brad, Thanks, but in looking at Ebay few video tapes, much less Beta
ones, are selling for anything at all.
Guess I could buy an old Betamax machine, transfer the tapes I want,
then offer the machine with a batch of tapes - that seems to be when
people are willing to get the tapes.

I sold mine in 2 groups. One with prerecorded tapes, movies and concerts,
the other with home taped TV shows and such as used to tape over. It was
last summer I think. You can ship them for next to nothing via USPS media
mail. I think I made about $20 or $30 overall after postage and E-Bay costs.
You can't list them separately or it's not worth it. Just group a bunch of
similar titles together. Like I said, you won't make much but it's better
than paying the trash service to take them away. Good luck. Brad

Make the rounds of video repair shops, that are locally owned.
Such places may have a few old Beta VCRs they will sell. One shop in my
town repairs Beta equipment and they always have a few VCRs they've
reconditioned and will sell fairly cheap.
