I am trying to do the same with a trv30. I'm going to the electronic
store later today, I'll let you know what I find out. I know you can
do it easily if you have a vcr that has S-video output and a fire wire
card on your pc. Unfortunately, I don't have a newer vcr with the
s-video out.
I'm waiting with interest! I'm in the same situation - just got a SCART
output on my VCR, no DV or S-video.

Ok, here goes.
(1) Make sure that your A/V DVOut is turned ON
(2) Connect your 340 to the computer via the firewire
(3) Connect the VHS VCR to the 340 via the Analog cable that came with the
camera (it has an video and 2 audio lines going into a mini-jack)
(4) Turn on your camcorder, computer and VCR (I am not sure if there is a
proper order or not)
(5) Open your NLE software
(6) Start capturing your VHS video to your computer
