I recently moved into an apartment which has a Directv dish mounted on the
roof. The dish is grey, about 18" in diameter, and in additon to the
DirecTV logo it contains the letters KTV. The coax cable comes into the
apartment from the satellite.

Having no experience with satellite systems, what do I need to get this
thing working? A receiver? I understand that some satellite channels are
available for free.

Are there any specific brand names and model numbers of equipment I should
look for? Where's the best place to look? I'm a complete newbie at this so
don't worry about being too verbose.

I also have a little Sony shortwave radio and I was wondering if there is
a way to hook that up with the satellite????? I thought I heard something
about combining the two.

Finally, I have a TV tuner card in my computer. Is there such a thing as a
satellite tuner card for a computer??

Thanks in advance.

You need a Directv reciever and subscribe.

You can do one of two things. Call up a local satellite installation
company. You can get up to 4 recievers usually for about $25.00
sometimes completly free. Second, you can buy a reciever and plug in it,
and call DirecTV yourself to have them activate it.
