Greetings,

Is there a live newsgroup for satellite TV? This is the most active one I
could find....

I had Dish Network. Now I'm looking into Ku band etc especially the FTA
stuff. I could not find a FAQ to read. I've looked at many web sites and
it sounds like in order to get "free" satellite TV I have to pay someone for
a subscription for updated BIN files to "fix" my satellite receiver (don't
have one yet). Is this correct? What are these files for? Do I really
have to pay someone $15/month to watch free TV? For $11 I can get six
Encore channels from Dish Network or five Cinemax channels or a bunch of
Starz or HBO for about $17/month. I'm mainly interested in getting free
movie channels that don't have any commercials.

Is there a web site that explains the whole story?

I've also read that the so-called "clone" receivers are no good. What's
wrong with Chinese electronics? Most of the electronics I've bought in the
past several years were all made in China and they seem to be no worse than
the older stuff made elsewhere.

So far it sounds like my Dish 500 dish might work with Ku band so I would
need a receiver and possibly a new LNB. Would I need a new cable too? And
it also sounds like I need a computer with USB, a removable USB drive, and a
phone line with internet connection or satellite internet. Do I really need
all that to watch White Springs TV or a similar channel? Any other FTA
commercial-free movie channels up there?

Who are Bev and Charlie? I take it they are in stationary orbit.

Thanks.

Thanks. There are a lot of forums and so far they all wanted $$$ just for
some FAQs.

All of the forums I'd tried wanted money just to read the FAQs. I said that
up there. Since then others have directed me to a couple that don't charge
anything.

Start over...what do you want?

Remember, encrypted programming is not for discussion.

Just want to know the basic stuff that everyone else already knows but
doesn't discuss.

No offense, but you are very close to being a troll. Several people in
this forum have offered advice and guidance, none of which you have
chosen to follow. It appears that what you want is for others to do the
spade work, report that to you, then you take credit for their work.

If you know what Google is, spend some time with it finding sources of
into on TVRO. And if the only forums you can find want money, you
aren't looking in the right places.

Good luck.

First....can you setup a dish in your yard, so that it can "see" the
southern horizon, and points to east-west?

Second, how big of a dish can you install?

I don't know what you mean because as far as I can tell I have followed the
links and advice that was given to me and I appreciate it. But when I get
there I don't know what they are talking about. Maybe I need to go to night
school and take SatTalk 101.
