To the best of my knowledge, DIRECTV is not available in South America,
both from a legal standpoint and technical, ie. the DIRECTV satellite
does not have a footprint/signal into South America. As far as HBO
on your 18" dish, there again, I would think not. Unless some other
satellite provider has a high powered KU-band (12 GHz) satellite with
coverage into South Ameria, I seriously doubt your DIRECTV receiving
system will work there. Even here in the USA, the transmission format
for the different services using an 18" dish, such as DIRECTV, USSB,
and DISH, are incompatible. You need to buy their proprietary receiver
in order to receive the signal.

DirecTV has another service: DirecTV Latin America. Not sure what area
is covered by its footprint.

Is that 18 inches? No way!. DTV-USA' footprint doesn't reach so far. I
believe that even DTV-LA requires a larger pizza.
You can receive HBO, both in C-band and 4DTV, but you can't get a subscription.
And you'll need at least a good 16-FOOTER BUD. Maybe a very good 12-footer
would do but I wouldn't risk it.
