Hello, If you can find a regular ku band lnb and a receiver like the Pansat
BR-3500 you can aim your 36" dish at satellites like SBS-6 (74 degrees west),
for live news feeds and W1 (103 degrees west) and receive NBC feeds. You
could also buy an lnbf and basic receiver for either DSS (101 degrees west)
or Dishnet (119 degrees west) and have a 36" instead of 18" "mini dish"
system. I have a Pansat BR-3500 receiver, 36" offset feed dish and .9db ku
band lnb with a moveable patio mount. currently it is looking at W1. I do
not know how to make an offset feed dish track like the regular center feed
"big dish"... do you? If all else fails, you at least have a nice dish to
start some PD3 projects if the bird ever flies. Hope this helps you out a
little. 73 de KA7EII, Rocky.

Primestar LNBs -are- regular LNBs - they receive the same frequencies as a Ku LNB
on a big dish system.

the dish will confuse you somewhat in setting the declination/offset
but it s/b just fine. finding and setting up a polar mount is the
main obstacle.

as the original poster, i'm really interested in whether this unit
could be hooked up to a block rcvr or ird etc as is to receive itc
ku band signals?
any ham radio lurkers out there have ideas for implementing these
dishes/feeds on the gig bands?

Yes, it can. You just need to get into the az-el aiming technique, and the
*manual skewing* technique. IMO, you might have better luck aiming it with
some sort of sqwacking dish aiming gizmo. If you happened to own a spectrum
analyzer or better yet, a Satlook you'd really be *in*. Not required,
obviously, but the right tools.......
