As I mentioned elsewhere, Warner Bros. is *finally* releasing some of the
best of the post-1948 Looney Toons on laserdisc (MGM/UA has the rights for
Looney Toons prior up to 1948.) Here is a list of what cartoons are on each
disc:

WINNER BY A HARE (14 Bugs Bunny Toons):
"The Fair-haired Hare", "Bully for Bugs", "Hare Do", "Captain
Hareblower", "My Bunny Lies Over The Sea", "High Diving Hare"
("Well, *I'm* a-steppin'!!"), "Rabbit Seasoning", "Bunny Hugged",
"Ballot-Box Bunny", "Box Office Bunny", "Big House Bunny", "Rabbit
Hood", "Hare Trimmed", "Mississippi Hare".

DUCK VICTORY (14 Daffy Duck Toons):
"Duck Dodgers in the 24 1/2th Century" (!!!!!!!), "Duck! Rabbit!
Duck!", "Drip-Along Daffy" ("Well, I would like... I would like? I
would like a trip to Europe!"), "The Super Snooper", "Daffy Duck
Hunt", "Muscle Tussle", "Don't Axe Me", "Stork Naked", "Robin Hood
Daffy", "Ali Babba Bunny", "Cracked Quack", "Daffy Dilly", "Golden
Yeggs", "Duck Amuck".

HAM ON WRY (14 Porky Pig Toons):
"Often an Orphan", "You Ought to Be In Pictures" (B&W with an
animated Porky giving a tour of Warner's), "The Pest That Came to
Dinner", "The Ducksters", "Dog Collared", "Porky in Wackyland"
(B&W), "Deduce, You Say", "Porky Pig's Feat" (B&W), "Claws For
Alarm", "The Prize Pest", "The Case of the Stuttering Pig" (B&W),
"Thumb Fun", "Awful Orphan", "Boobs in The Woods"

[An observation: a lot of these are B&W; are all of them after 1948?
If not, are any repeated in the GOLDEN AGE OF LOONEY TOONS
collections?]

LOONEY TOONS: AFTER DARK (Scary-theme Looney Toons):
"Water, Water Every Hare", "Jumpin' Jupiter", "Bewitched Bunny",
"Hyde and Hare", "The Night of the Living Duck", "Transylvania
6-5000", "The Wearing of the Grin", "Scaredy Cat", "Broom-Stick
Bunny", "Hyde & Go Tweet", "Hare-Way to the Stars" with Marvin
Martian (I could swear that was on the last GOLDEN AGE), "The
Abominable Snow Rabbit", "The Duxorcist", "Hasty Hare" with Marvin
Martian.

LOONEY TOONS: ASSORTED NUTS (16 Misc. Looney Toons):
"A Bear for Punishment", "Dog Gone South", "Boyhood Daze", "Pests
for Guests", "Mouse Wreckers", "A Sheep In THe Deep", "Rabbit's
Kin", "Feed The Kitty", "The Hypo-Chondri-Cat", "From A To ZZZZZ",
"Chow Hound", "Strife With Father", "Bear Feat", "Feline Frame-Up",
"Gone Batty", "A Hound for Trouble"

LOONEY TOONS: CURTAIN CALLS (Show-biz Looney Toons):
"The Rabbit Of Seville" (!!!!), "One Froggy Evening" (!!!),
"Hillbilly Hare", "Curtain Razor", "What's Up Doc", "Nelly's Folly",
"The Scarlet Pimpernickel" (!!), "Show Biz Bugs", "Three Little
Bops", "Baton Bunny", "High Note", "Long-Haired Hare", "Tweety's
Circus",.....

...and...

"What's Opera, Doc?"

"in the dead of the night, a shimmering light
gleam of the blade, and the devil is paid
when the axe comes down, a chiwwing sound
blade hits the head, another wabbit's dead

i'm a rabbit swayer, a guitar pwayer
with a nasty habit... kill da wabbit!
kill da wabbit, kill da wabbit
hehehehehehehehe..."

Do you know when these discs will be released and what the prices will be?

Thanks

Nope. I was thinking of "Haredevil Hare" in the first GOLDEN AGE OF LOONEY
TOONS collection. Sorry!

"You Ought To Be In Pictures" (1940)
"Porky In Wackyland" (1938)
"Porky Pig's Feat" (1943)
"The Case of the Stuttering Pig" (1937)

Nope, not at least on #1 and #2. Don't know what'll be on #3. Kinda
doubt it though, since the MGM/WB deal on the material is pretty clear.

No, "Haredevil Hare" (1948) was on #1. The later rework of the Marvin
saga "Hare-Way to the Stars" (1958) is noticably funnier, I think.
Looking forward to seeing this on LD...

PS. For all those interested in WB animation, I strongly recommend
Jerry Beck's & Will Friedwald's "Looney Tunes & Merrie Melodies" (1989)
$14.95, ISBN 0-8050-0894-2. A lovingly crafted reference book.

Current pricing in the lastest Sight 'n' Sound catalog is
$34.95 for each of the 6 disks.

Considering that the MGM sets listed at $99.95 for a 5 disk
set, five of these disks would set you back $174.75. And they
are all typically 14 'toons per disk.

Boo Warner Brothers! Bravo Ted Turner!

You also forgot to mention, if you order any early, you get 15% off
each LD...

Perhaps so -- but IMHO, "Haredevil Hare" is well worth seeing, too.
Otherwise, where else would you here

In fact, I believe that Sight and Sound is offering these discs at 20% off
if pre-ordered. This comes to about $28 each, which is quite reasonable.

But NOT reasonable compared to the MGM boxed release. With the S'n'S
pre-order the box came to about $80 which is $16/disk. I still think
the WB pricing is a rip-off.

How times have changed, remember when WB was keeping all their disc prices
down to $25 and $30. Then I thought they were great. Now I think MGM/UA gives
the most bang for the buck.

Thanks Warner, great stuff.

But still no Roadrunner :-(

Am I the only person in the world still waiting for Roadrunner
releases?
