I CAN PLUG MY PC OUTPUT (FROM AN NTSC CONVERTER) RIGHT INTO MY S-VHS
EDITOR AND GET A ROCK SOLID IMAGE. BUT, WHEN I PLUG THE VERY SAME SIGNAL
INTO THE MX-1 I GET RIPPLES ALONG THE VERTICAL EDGES. THIS PROBLEM
ACTUALLY COMES AND GOES, BUT I HAVENT BEEN ABLE TO IDENTIFY THE CAUSE.
CAN SOMEONE SHED SOME LIGHT ON THIS. PROBLEM OCCURS USING S-VIDEO OR
VIDEO.

APPEARS TO BE A TIMING PROBLEM...BUT IT DOES GO AWAY SOMETIMES AND IT DOES
NOT SHOW UP WITH A DIRECT LINK TO THE EDITOR.

PLEASE E-MAIL ME ANY POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS,

THANK YOU

For your information the mx1 is not a reliable video mixer. The TBC
broadcast that videonics claimed is bullcrap! I've been experiencing
several intermittent problems and videonics are not good help. Many of my
associates advised me to get rid of it. I advise you the same thing if
you're using this for business. For hobby maybe it's ok. The dealer
replaced it three times but will not give me refund. If you can get a
refund do it soon or sell it to save you headache later.

Well, I did ELEVEN (11) multi-camera, live dance recital video productions in
June... all with one MX1... and outside of a few intermittent "resets" it
performed flawlessly. I have no complaint whatsoever about its picture
quality. And from what I have seen in this newsgroup and on the Videonics list
server, Videonics is very responsive to problems. I'm sure you will hear from
someone as a result of your note.

This is not an uncommon situation with a computer output either from scan
converters or gen-lock cards with the MX-1 built in TBC.

To remedy the situation you will have to do one or more of the following.

1. Disable the MX-1 Frame rate lock (page 22-23 in the manual).

2. Reduce the computer monitors resolution and or colors (instead of thousands
of colors try 256 or 16)

3. Make sure your computer graphics are in the center of the monitor (what is
typically refered to as Safe area).

Hopefully this helps.

Precicely. I had the exact same problem. When I played my hi-8 tapes on
a non tbc player, there was timebase error going thru the mixer. When I went
thru the TBC player it was fine. Solution use a TBC player, or get rid of
the MX1. Unfortunately I too believed videonics claim about the broadcast
TBC, and bought one after selling my Panasonic for a big loss. Now I am
kicking myself for doing it, but can't afford to keep buying equipment
that manufactures "lie" about.

How can I improve my video without buying another TBC.
Vertical lines from my non-tbc hi-8 tapes have the squiggles. I take the
same tape, and pop it in the player with the built in TBC and it is fine.
The problem is I only have 2 TBC players, and often I do 3 and 4 camera
productions, and in those cases 2 of the cameras are used as players
and they look horrible when I cut over to those sources. It is most distracting
as the other sources look great. I really can't afford to buy another
couple of players with TBCs for the ammount that I need 4 sources. Still
it is very annoying.
Is there any solution other than either the above, or trashing the MX1
and getting another Panasonic board?

I have an MX-1 and have not had any problems with non-timebased video playback.
What do you want for $1000? The MX-1 is a great piece of equipment for the
money. But, I'm sure you will get better results with an Alladin or some other
more expensive mixer. If your Panasonic was so great, why did you sell it?

Satish,

That should not be. I have asked our HelpLine to contact you to see if
we can solve the problem. We will also contact the user who posted the
original message.
