I went to LG web site and got the latest firmware and did upgrade to that.
It doesn't change the behavior.
I can see the initial language selection screen on the DVD, but after that
the screen goes blank, and from that point you cannot recover even to the
DVD menu.

I didn't see DIsney Up in that thread, but the general seems to be that the
BH-200 has lots of compatibility issues with various Blu-Ray movies, some of
those addressed by firmware and some not.
Is there any Blu-Ray player that is generally considered to be the best as
far as compatibility with all known Blu-Ray movies?

Surprisingly, one of the cheapest, probably available at your local
Walmart: Magnavox Blu-ray NB530MGX. Made by Funai.
Please be more careful with attributions when quoting.
I did not write the question you attributed to me in the above quote.
I _answered_ it.
Well, considering the price; at least they are releasing firmware updates,
and if they break or support ends, you aren't out that much money.
I listed the PS3 because it has been the "gold standard" from the
beginning. The Oppo, while pricey, is backed by a company that has
consistently shown superior service and responsiveness to customer needs,
develops their firmware in-house with minimal lead-time, and even releases
early "public beta" code to address problems reported directly to them by
customers in advance of a formal firmware update.
If Funai makes it, and if Funai releases the new firmware, wouldn't it be
better to buy it using the Funai model number? What is that?

Funai usually is an OEM manufacturer, not a product brand. On their
firmware page, the model number listed above is actually theirs.
