I'm looking to convert about 125-150 of my old VHS tapes over to DVD...I'm not too saavy as to how to do this...is there a machine that'll make this fairly simple? I don't want to do this thru the computer-I'd want to set up a stand-alone system..anyone have any tips? Thanks in advance!

Use VCR and standalone DVD video recorder.

These days, the only way you can buy one new, pretty much, is in a
dual-format deck that has both anyway.

If the VHS tape is not commercially copy-protected, just insert source and
destination and press RECORD button.

If the tape is copy-protected, you will need separate player and recorder
(in order to insert a Macrovision stripper into the video signal path
between the two).

I've been pretty happy with my Toshiba.

Don't know how many models are actually still being produced, but
discontinued models are available online. Panasonic and Toshiba made the
best decks.
