As of Tuesday, October 19, 1999, Samsung 800 number for customer service
prompts you if your call in about their DVD players and The Matrix. Their
answer is "another 2 weeks" for a chip upgrade/replacement. When I asked the
customer service rep if I needed to leave my name, callback phone
number, model number, unit serial number, the Samsung customer service rep
stuttered, "No, that's OK, we will get in touch with you." I know from that
brilliant response that I will see my replacement about the same time that
pigs sprout wings and fly! I don't blame this customer service rep,
defending poor workmanship 8 or more hours a day would be grinding for
anyone, however if there is any consolation for the Samsung customer service
people, they now have more job security involving these DVD players then I
imagine any of them thought possible. Do any other readers have experience
with the Samsung 907 and The Matrix? My unit pixceled on two scenes and
froze on another, this was done with 2 different copies of the movie. I see
many responses about the 709 model but 907 owners do seem to say much, or
don't know this group exists.

Thank you.

Is it just me, am I looking at this the wrong way? If the DVD player works
with the majority of disks out there, surely it's the Matrix disk at fault?
If your car pinks / pings on a certain type of petrol / gasoline you change
your fuel, not the car!

Good on Samsung for trying to correct somebody else's problem.

Dear Mr Adam W Holmes,

Sir, your view certainly contains merit. I would however take your own
comment and futher it to remark that if everyone else's car uses the same
petrol and does not pings then isn't it a factor of my car's manufactuer to
correct a problem that only exists in the model I drive?
Thank you.

Here's another way to look at it:

Let's say DVD has a certain set of standards, A, B, C, and D. The
majority of DVDs only use features of A, B, and C, and some DVD player
manufacturers, either through less than through testing or willful
negligence, to only bother with A, B, and C. Then along comes the
Matrix, which uses feature D. Since those DVD player manufacturers
didn't bother to include this part of the standard, their machines don't
work, and they have to scramble to fix it. Since they *are* scrambling
to fix it, instead of saying "tough!" my guess is that this is correct,
to a degree.

Like if your car's owner's manual specified "unleaded gas" with no octane
level, and pinged on 86. 86 is standard, so the car manufacturer would
have been at fault for not listing the limitations.

If you're right, yes. If I'm right, then they're just playing catch-up
to a problem they'd hoped no one would catch on to.

There's no need to e-mail me a copy of a follow-up; but if you do,
please identify it as such.

I have a 905 which I think is very similar. They have no fix as yet for the
900 series. Mine already had an upgrade in July. It fixed many of the
problems I had, but it still has a few glitches. Examples:

1. The motorcycle/helicopter scene in Tomorrow Never Dies. It won't allow my
to cue/review, and it skips a little toward the end of that track. Before the
upgrade, it wouldn't even play the whole track.

2. Urban Legends. The second-to-last track wouldn't play on the widescreen
side before the upgrade. Now it plays fine.

3. Kiss The Girls. It would freeze up in the forest chase scene and would not
play it before the upgrade.

4. Crimson Tide. Didn't play it before the upgrade, but afterward it pauses
between each track change and in the middle of each track where the counter
goes back to 0:00.

I hope they come up with a final fix-all EPROM. It's been in the shop twice.
It was in last week for the supposed NEW fix, but it didn't make any difference
at all.

Ken I got tired of explaining my list of interests to those who buy toilet
paper that says "THIS SIDE UP" on it. Instead, you get this: "Life is tough.
It's tougher if you're stupid." John Wayne

Its not just Samsung DVD that is crap everything they sell is built down to
a price. Not to mention their poor customer service.
Avoid buying Samsung crap.

Well apparently not everything they build.

Their HCH551W 16 x 9 55" widescreen is awfully nice. HDTV too...

Enjoy!
