I have already captured Video from the TV in AVI format, but a
10 second file is way too big for me(around 100mb). I was wondering
if there is a way for me to capture Mpeg right from the TV using
Third-Party software( I have tried the trial version of Xing Encoder,
but that only converts existing files) I need a software program that
will capture Mpeg right from the source. I am not a picky person, I
don't need high quality video, just average stuff. I figure if I
haven't found an answer after I post this message then I would be
better off buying the Dazzle or Snazzi card to do the job for me,
thanks alot. I suppose my other options would be to dump the ATI card
and buy a Matrox Mystique 220 or Millenium 2 with the Rainbow Runner
Studio. Thanks alot for your time, please Repost, take care everyone
, have a good day.

Have you tried compression? (ie, Intel?)

You cannot. You can use the 2 other built in comopretions of the ATI
card but unless your useing YUV wich is almost raw video, you lose a
shit load of quality. The tv tuner was no made to capture for a large
length of time. you have 2 options. Capture the clips in the ati
first..then recompress them. Eqasiest method? As soon as you stoped
capturing...hit the save as button (folder to the right of the file
name) and you will beable to set the codecs used to resave the
captured file. You cant use mpeg here but you can use one of Intels
indeo codecs. You dont really need to worry abour a codec for the
sound.. most of them compress it to a vert low bit rate only suitable
for voice. just remember to have some free space on your HD when doing
this. remember you have to have enough space for the first video
clip..then the one it saves again thats compressed. then delete the
big one manualy. Second choice... there are some straight to mpeg
cards out there. One I recenly stumbled on is www.la-vision.com
Snazzie (PCI card version) and Dazzle (Parrellel port version). They
record straight to mpeg in a variety of compressions..
