I'd like to hear from people who have used either the Se or the EL in a non-linear desktop video setting. The specs on quantum's Website seem to indicate that the EL is a better drive, but I'm interested in how well this drive performs in a real world setting.

My Quantum FB SE 6.4 gb drive tested at 5.17 MB/sec (but I haven't defragmented it lately) when I just checked it using the Matrox RR disk speed test. I have had no problems with it.

Take a look at http://www.storagereview.com/, and compare the drives yourself. Itseems to me that the two drives would perform about the same for video (see transfer rate numbers). I would look at Maxtor drives - 2500+, 2880 or 4320 series.

I think that best solution is ONLY SCSI HDs. I own a very fast SCSI Seagate ST39173W. Try it: the price is slightly exprensive.
