I've recently finally started using the MEP15's's Burn mode for authoring my
DVDs, instead of my faithful TMPGEnc DVD Author 1.6. My main reasons for now
trying to struggle up the learning curve with MEP are
- I can use 16:9 menus
- It has some attractive animated menus
- I like the integration, being able to go direct from editing to menu
authoring, using existing chapter markers etc.
- Customisation should be possible using the 'interface for editing the disc
menu', which allows access to the menu elements.
But, once I leave the bog standard defaults, I'm finding the interface hard
going. Apart from the poor documentation which I've grown accustomed to, I
think that the DVD menu authoring area of MEP15 is buggy and unstable in
various ways.
I'm discussing these points in the english-speaking section of the Magix
Forum. But even amongst the experienced users there are surprisingly few who
use the program's menu authoring comprehensively. Hence my parallel enquiry
here.
OK, with that background covered, here's the first example to show the level
of detail I have in mind:
MEP15 DVD MENUS: ISSUE #1
-------------------------
When using the Composition 'Max 16', there seems to be no button/icon to
return to the top menu.
To reproduce this:
1. Open MEP15 from fresh start
2. Import any clip(s) to the new project and add a couple of chapter markers
(using <Shift + Enter> at the chosen points).
3. Switch to Burn mode, which should by default select the menu template HD
static > Default 16:9 and show the main menu with a single button, with its
text below identical to the project filename.
(There is a bug which means that the top text is not displayed. To get that
you have to r-click around the top middle until you're able to open its
properties, then edit and close. That's not necessary for this test though.)
4. Switch to the Composition tab and d-click the first option, Composition
Max 16. The main menu changes to a single line.
5. Click the blue icon to open the Chapters menu.
Here, I see only the couple of buttons for the chapters. That remains true on
the burned DVD. Of course, you can do so on most DVD player remote control
units, but that shouldn't be the only way.

Still hope to get into discussion with another user.
Hi Terry;
When it comes to video editing and DVD authoring, it's kinda
been left behind, for other activities/interests lately. I haven't
upgraded to 15 from MEP14+, but even more to the point I've
installed practically nothing for video editing or DVD authoring
on my latest build, of my main system. (Still have some basic
tools like Wax2/WinMorf, VDub, the PGC/IFO/VOBEdit
programs, ect...; along with a copy of TDA {mostly to use the
burning app.} ) VideoReDo TVSuite, of course and TNPGEnc
and Elecard encoding/Muxing tools.
I guess it is about time I rebuilt some of that capability, and
MEP is as good as any to start from, I'll go ahead and do the
upgrade to MEP15+, it may be a week or so before a it gets
here though.
Luck;
Ken
OK Ken, look forward to hearing from you in the New Year.
Best wishes,

I just installed the boxed version of MEP15+, so I can get started
back with it again. The boxed version (in the US at least) includes
the "Vasco da Gama 3 Magix Edition" and "I-Clone 3 SE" programs
as well as the extras normally bundled into MEP (no Goya Burner,
though) plus some new interactive functions.
I don't think my firewall likes I-Clone 3, I'm having trouble installing
it. I've got the full standard version of I-Clone 2 around here some-
place.
Do you have the download version or the boxed? The "Vasco da
Gama 3 Magix Edition" looks to be made to address an issue you
raised, a while back.
Luck;
Ken
Hi Ken,
Sorry for delay in replying - somehow only just seen your post.
Very pleased to hear you're an MEP user again.
My version came on DVD and has now been patched to MEP Plus v. 8.6.1.0 (C1)
I can't recall what happened at installation time with IClone. I have the
program
C:\Program Files\Reallusion\iClone 2\iClone.exe
but have never used it.
Carl (located in Adelaide) reported this morning in this thread
http://support.magix.net/boards/magix/index.php?showtopic=49777
that "The February issue of Australian PC User has their team's selection of
the hottest products from 2009.
Best-value video editing suite, and best overall in the creativity software
category was MEP 15+.
"For the price, this is an amazingly full-featured video editing suite,
featuring up to 99 video tracks, high-end features like colour correction,
and excellent audio and video effects."
BTW, if you haven't already, I hope you'll consider joining that forum.

Your expertise would be very welcome!
Not sure what you mean about that "Vasco da Gama 3 Magix Edition"?
As you'll see if you browse the forum, I'm still struggling along with MEP's
authoring!
OK, it seems my Magix login works on the forum as well.
Try the search function in the forum, using "vasco de gama".
The two threads deal with the differences between the download and
box versions - and - the differences between the US and UK versions.
There is a link in one of the threads to the company that Magix got
the SE version from. The full version may actually be useful, who knows?
I do know that the SE version of iClone lacks some essential features of
the Standard version. (I did get it to install, with a change in antivirus
program. Now, if I can just find that old standard version again.)
Since the USENET seems to be moribund, I guess I need to get
comfortable the these net forums. The only other one that I've joined;

issues.

Good news. Look forward to seeing you there.

Ah, thanks, got it. Yes, that could indeed be useful for showing my walks and
flights. I don't have it installed. It doesn't appear to be on my
installation DVD.
