Several years ago, when I wanted to download videos from CBS and others,
I used GetFLV. Unfortunately, that program doesn't seem available in a
Linux environment and I'm finding current information difficult to come
by. What I'm looking for are open source or freeware programs that will
download FLV and other formats from Hulu, CBS, and NBC. It had been a
while since I used Jdownloader in Ubuntu, but I tried updating it to the
latest version and trying to grab any programs from the aforementioned
sites resulted in failure.

It may be a long shot, but I'll never know if I don't ask. Thanks, in
advance, for any suggestions.

The videohelp site is a good place for leads on programs,
and also gives ideas on program cost. GetFLV is expensive,
because it's a rolling hack, and needs to be updated
on a regular basis by whoever wrote it. There are only three
reviews here, but I've learned all I need to know. It
looks like you're provided a fake (or otherwise) auth code,
to download CBS.
