Can anyone suggest a good keyframer?

Hi out there,
I do a lot of raytracing, and if you don't know what that is, that's
okay - just say I do a lot of pictures.
I'm looking for hardware that'll let you put pictures on a videotape,
one frame at a time. I've tried putting some of my pictures together in
an .avi format before recording it, but it's too slow and choppy. Some
may say the method I want is too clumsy, but that's okay: the effect I'm
aiming for is smoothness, not convenience. Thanks.
