for a live cnn feed mixed with your own video (whether scroll or split
screen) you're going to need both something to create your content AND
some sort of vision mixer. (panasonic mx12?)
then again, you could perhaps use a pc running cnn live in one window
and your content in another - this would be pretty simple to set up, but
not too professional looking?
I'm curious why you think this solution would be "not too professional
looking" ?
The PC would be best configured with a cable card for CNN HD, but
almost any PC capture card could accept the analog output of a cableco
or satellite STB. Off-the-shelf software could be used to display
the video, the scroll, and the slide show. Without a custom program
controlling the screen, a good number of contemporary office
personnel could implement this with just a little reading and maybe
some hints from a group such as this.
A PC + capture card also seems like an inexpensive solution.
It would even be possible without a capture card (one less thing to
maintain) by using PIP or POP to display CNN in one window while
displaying the PC scroll and slide show in another, depending upon the
TV employed and its window size flexibility.
mainly because of your last sentence - window size flexibility. i'm not
sure how you would lose the 'window frames', which would give the
display it's 'unprofessional' appearance....
Well, my last sentence did apply to PIP/POP not full display by PC.
However, as to windows without borders, all software players and DVR
packages which I've used allow for resizable, borderless (or thin
border no title bar) windows. MPC, the only player I'm presently
using, is an example. Windows Media Player is not among those I've
tried. This would be true also of slide show players; I've written
one each myself, using Visual Basic making calls to MS provided
graphic processes (the same processes used by WMP!). The WWW is
littered with programming examples.
As to text scrolling, I'm not personally aware of off-the-shelf
software doing this in borderless windows, though it's hardly a
programming challenge. Beside which, it will also depend upon the
user's desire for orientation: horizontal, single-line; vertical,
multi-line; or no scroll at, rather a text slide show.
Even were there no ready-to-use software for "pretty" windows, I'm
sure the OP could employ an 11 year old for a few hours to customize
this ;-0)
