Custom scroll for waiting room TV

I'd like to put CNN in my waiting room and run a custom scroll across
the bottom or run a slide show beside the CNN feed. Can anyone point
me in the right direction? THANKS!!!

for a live cnn feed mixed with your own video (whether scroll or split
screen) you're going to need both something to create your content AND
some sort of vision mixer. (panasonic mx12?)

then again, you could perhaps use a pc running cnn live in one window
and your content in another - this would be pretty simple to set up, but
not too professional looking?

I'm curious why you think this solution would be "not too professional
looking" ?

The PC would be best configured with a cable card for CNN HD, but
almost any PC capture card could accept the analog output of a cableco
or satellite STB. Off-the-shelf software could be used to display
the video, the scroll, and the slide show. Without a custom program
controlling the screen, a good number of contemporary office
personnel could implement this with just a little reading and maybe
some hints from a group such as this.

A PC + capture card also seems like an inexpensive solution.

It would even be possible without a capture card (one less thing to
maintain) by using PIP or POP to display CNN in one window while
displaying the PC scroll and slide show in another, depending upon the
TV employed and its window size flexibility.

mainly because of your last sentence - window size flexibility. i'm not
sure how you would lose the 'window frames', which would give the
display it's 'unprofessional' appearance....

If we are going for slightly crude, how about using editing software with
the extra hardware to handle the real time compositing. I had a Matrox
product, many years ago, that would allow you to combine stuff on the
timeline with incoming video, and you could set the timeline to loop.
So you create your crawl or whatever, and put it on the timeline then put
CNN into the input and output the composite to the waiting room.
This was a Matrox Digisuite being run by a program called Incite.
I really don't know if there is anything available that will do this today.
There must be.
