I got a new computer loaded with a DVD burner and the NTI software CD &
DVD Maker Gold version 7.0.0.6305 which is using the MPEG-1 encoding
support. It says you can download the MPEG-2 encoding plug-in from the
NTI website but I am not sure if I need it.

My question is: Can I wrap a bunch of my AVI home movies to burn a
DVD-R? I am not interested on creating a VCD or SVCD using a CD-R.

When I use this software and select the option to create a DVD, the
software looks for VOB, IFO or BUP files and expects to find or create
a VIDEO_TS folder to place these files prior to create a DVD. But all
my movies are in AVI format, and since the software is designed to
search for VOB, IFO or BUP formats, then it doesn't really sees the AVI
format.

Any suggestions?

I am pretty skilled on computers audio and video, but I am learning how
to work with a DVD burner, DVD-R's and AVI files, and the NTI support
have not answered my questions. Any help will be gratly appreciate it.

It sounds like this DVD Maker is not what you think it is. The final
form for putting files onto a DVD is the TS_Video folder with all the
various Vob files in. There are some beginner level software programs
with the 'easy' button where you can feed it an avi and it will reincode
it to MPG2 and then into the DVD file structure.

Its been covered a ton in this group so if you searched back a bit you
would get numerous recommendations.

It seems that the NTI software is not used for encode AVI and author
DVD, It only burn DVD disc from a DVD folder.

You may try "DVD Burning Xpress" from http://www.dvd-burning-xpress.com
. This software can convert AVI to burn DVD movie disc with a few
clicks. It is easy to use.

Hope this helpful.

ImTOO AVI to DVD Converter is an excellent DVD burn software which can
convert AVI to DVD and burn it on DVD disc. The AVI to DVD Converter
allows you to specify NTSC or PAL format, adjust 4:3 or 16:9 video
aspect, and burn AVI to DVD disc or ISO file. It also provides many
brilliant DVD menus for your DVD authoring.

DO NOT BUY ANY PRODUCTS FROM THIS COMPANY: "ImTOO Software Studio"
UNLESS YOU ARE ABSOLUTLY SURE YOUR DVD-RW DRIVER IS COMPATIBLE WITH
THEIR SOFTWARE.

In my case it was not compatible. I immidiatly notified the company's
support staff. Since they didn't offer a free trial nor a demo for
their "AVI to DVD Converter V2.0", I had to purchase their software and
I paid $32.95 American dollars. Three weeks later and many hours later
after following their suggestions, the ImTOO support staff sent me an
email to let me know that my brand new computer was the problem (not
the driver). Therefore, they would not refund my money. I already
reported them to the the Better Business Bureau System, Capital One
Financial and the International Consumer Protection Enforcement
Network.

One more thing: they won't publish any more facts such as compatible
DVD-RW drivers for their software. Why? They can go ahead and get some
extra money from users like us. The company is based in Beijing China,
the software error messages containing some mispelling errors and their
support staff was rude. No address, no telephone numbers either. Keep
away from them or buy their products at your own risk. If there is any
problem, they won't refund your money.

This software did a pretty good job with all my AVI files. Thank you!

The only thing I would love to see on it, it's an estimate to calculate
how many AVI files would fill a 4.7 GB DVD-R. The software is really
easy to use and the process is lengthly, but with excellent results. In
my case, if I add upt to 2.7 GB of AVI files prior to starting the
burning process, then my DVD-R fills above 92% on average.

PS Do NOT buy products such as ImTOO AVI to DVD Converter! Bad bad bad
and rude support, software didn't worked on my DVD-RW driver and they
do not refund for this (read more below).

Just for the record: "ImTOO AVI to DVD Converter V2.0" is incompatible
with drivers such as the HL-DT-ST DVD-RW GCA 4080N driver". One way to
check what DVD-RW or DVD burner your computer has if using Windows XP:
1) Right-click on My Computer
2) Select Properties
3) Click on the Hardware tab
4) Click on Device Manager
5) Look under DVD/CD-ROM drives.
