I have been using Virtualdub for a long time now - I am not an expert but I
have coded/recoded a lot of films. I am having a problem which I think is a
recent one - if I use the Lame 3.96.1 MP3 codec I usually code my audio to
160 CBR or 128 CBR as this plays nicely in my standalone DVD player and
after remuxing the Audio/Video it seems to iron out any sync issues. I am
finding that if I choose 160 CBR in Virtualdub and then inspect the
rexulting film with AVICodec 1.2 b113 - it tells me that the Audio is a VBR
! If I recode into a 128 CBR MP3 then I get a CBR Audio track (acording to
AVICodec) as expected. Because the VBR Audio causes sync problems with my
player this is a problem. Does anyone know why this might be happening ?

To eliminate possible problems I have reinstalled my whole system from
scratch, I only install a couple of codecs that I use.

Any ideas would be most welcome.

Thanks

This is strange.

I've seen times when the LAME choices appear to be limited,
but never heard of this.

Have you tried a different version of the LAME ACM ?
