I've $1600 to spend on a new computer. As a writer trying
to break into local public access programming I expect I'll
need some sort of video viewing capability with this machine.
I'm totally confused by all the terms: MPEG, PCI local Bus
WINGRAF Accel. w/1MB; 2 MB SVGA DIAMOND STEALTH 64; Xing
MPEG Player video software; WAVE-32 SOUND BLASTER COMPATIBLE
CARD, etc; 170 Watt Stereo Speakers &Microphone, etc.

You'll note some of the above are better than others, I'd like
to know why. Again, what I'm looking for is your advice on a good
minimum configuration. Please don't suggest whiz-bang stuff I
really won't need.

Finally, if you know of any affordable mail order places please
include this information also.

Thanks,

EG Land

1. Buy a Mac.
2. MacWarehouse or MacZone.
