How can I edit small portions of a DVD movie (ie Catch Me if You Can, )
and save it as a clip?

I see the section on editing if you authored the DVD, but I am not the
author. I am just missing it somehow?

Any of the guides for "Removing Commercials" are appropriate. If you can
remove a 'commercial', you can remove anything else.

You are simply removing everything BUT the material you want to keep.
