I know it will be stored in the cache in aprt or full, but any other thoughts
on this matter would be appreciated.

At least with Real Networks streaming products, the video files (.rm) are not
cached or saved on the client machine if the file is delivered via a Real Server.
Thus you could watch endless hours of streamed video without ever filling your
hard disk. There is a small amount of video that gets buffered to smooth the
playback rate, but I don't think it even gets written to a file.
The current version of the G2 Real Player Pro (the $29.99 version, not the free
one) includes on option for saving the .rm file, but this will only work if the
clip producer sets the "Allow Recording" attribute on the file. This is not to
say that you couldn't write a custom client that intercepted Real streams and
wrote them to a file...

If you're talking about RealMedia, you can't keep a copy UNLESS:
1.) Whomever encoded the file checked the box called "SELECTIVE RECORD"
AND
2.) The person/persons ponied up $30 for RealPlayer+
