The following is a list of error codes Jerrold converters and how to
bring them back to a E0 state:

E0 Indicates normal condition after initialization.

E1 If timer mode = on then this error indicates has not recieved a reset
timeout command.
If timer mode = off then this error indicates that the converter
has not recieved a good
FM packet.
FIX Send the reset timeout or initialization command. Converter will
recover to state
previouse to timeout.

E2 Not used.
E3 Not used.

E4 Illegal terminal. Converter failed the legal terminal test.
FIX Initialize converter or redefine converter as a legal terminal.

E5 Default address. Converter contains the default address (due to clear
address
command.)
FIX Set a new address by initialization procedure.

E6 Not used.

E7 Converter has faulty or wrong (defeat attempt) ROM installed or
incorrect initialization
procedure was used.
FIX Check initialiation procedure. If error remains after initialization
and power cycle. If
procedure is correct replace ROM or return unit for repair.

E8 The converter has been installed in a system for which it has not
been initialized.
FIX Reciept of a valid site code clears this condition and dreverts to
its previouse state.
If error persists, initialize converter.

E9 Virgin converter. This error only occurs on initial power-up of a new
converter, or if the battery fails to keep the RAM alive during
power-down. This error causes the converter to be disconnected
and it's barker channel to be at 106.5 Mhz.
FIX Initialize the converter to clear this error. If error persists,
return unit for repair.

EA* Inavlid serial number
FIX Return the converter for repair.

* This error only occurs when you attempt to remove the cover from
converter and trip the tamper switch

Hope this helps somebody out.

Thanks your for the codes...

My Jerrold converter shows E4. The FIX is to Initialize converter or
redefine converter as a legal terminal. How would
I do either of these fixes?

Thanks in advance.

And I do thank you very much :)

As per the messages below, I have the same problem, I know the answers
below, but what does it mean in english ? (duh)
Also does one require any special equipment to achieve this ?
Thanks Peter.....

Update....... this just in!!

After I had wrote this message, I went ahead and hooked the cable box back
up to the antenna. (this is a wireless cable system). This morning, the box
had changed into an E0 state (apparently, it had been Initialized). But
alas,... it still did not work....(the cable box was working good for about
a month until a thunder storm blew my TV tower down.) So sad,... so sad...
:(

Those instructions assume that you are a cable company
employee legally reactivating a box. If you aren't, you will
need a cube or other device to turn it on.
It's a little 'fun with newbies' who don't take the time
to read this NG for a while before posting.

You would either have to have access to the head-end or use a cube to
initialize your converter.

You should probably call your cable company and have them re-initialize
your converter.

When I posted the error codes and fixes I thought it was quite obviouse
you would need some sort of way to execute the commands. Wether it be
access to the head-end or using a cube.
I never said you could do any magik using the remote...
