At the end of november I'll go to New-Zealand for two
months with three friends of mine.
Flying with Canadian Pacific we have to stop in Vancouver,
and we will stay there for three days.
Now I have some questions :
1. Is there any bus or train who takes you to town ?
2. Do you know a good (and not expensive) accomodation (Hotel, Motel) ?
3. Is there any special event between 23.Nov and 26.Nov, or do
you know any good pubs or night clubs ??
Thanks in advance
Paolo
P.S.: Please answer to the net, not by mail. We have to pay for mail :-(
There used to be a private bus/van service from the
airport to downtown. Reasonably priced and about 20-
30 minutes.

Take the airport shuttle that goes to the Hotel Vancouver and
get out at the hotel. The YMCA is accross the street and the
YWCA is close-by also. Single rooms at reasonable rates.

Special events I don't know but Gastown has plenty of pubs
and Granville Island Market is an interesting daytime
destination.
Have fun......Derek Elsworth.

Someone else has already answered your first two questions so I'll just
go on to the third one. I don't have a newspaper with me so I'm not sure
what special events will be on from Nov. 23-26 but I'll take a look in
the newspaper this weekend to see if there's anything worth mentioning.
As for pubs and night clubs, you can try The Unicorn, which is located
at the Plaza of Nations, on the old Expo 86 site. I've never been there
but I've heard that it's loads of fun. You might also want to check out
O'Ryans in Gastown; it's a piano bar. Personally, one of my favorite
activities is to go see Theatresports, which is improvisational comedy.
They play at the Back Alley Theatre on Thurlow Street, just off Robson
St. (within walking distance from the YMCA); the Vancouver Theatresports
League also puts on a show called Scared Scriptless at the Arts Club
Revue on Granville Island. Your only chance to see either comedy show
while you're here, however, will be on Saturday, Nov. 23, because I
don't think they have shows Sunday - Tuesday.
As for accomodations, what price range are we looking at? YMCA has one
of the lowest prices, but you can also move up the scale a little and
stay at a Best Western or other better motels which will cost a little
more. The other consideration would be, I take it you don't want to
travel much and is looking for a motel with direct bus access from the
airport. Is this true? This might limit choices some.
