I would appreciate any recommendations on how to avoid getting sick from the
water in Cancun. We will be staying at the Hyatt and would like to hear from
anyone who has stayed there. How are the rooms and restaurants? Any
suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

The "island" of Cancun where you are staying has a filtration system so
it's safe to drink the water. The Mexican government specifically targeted
the US tourist $$$, so they added the system. If you venture from the
main tourist area, however, be very careful (especially if you go to Isla
Mujeres, Akumal, or towards any of the ruins. Wash your hands frequently,
especially after swimming in the Caribbean, and avoid unpeeled fruits and
vegetables.

The timeshare that my wife and I own in Cancun claim to have
purified drinking water as do most of the hotels. I would
have to say, it's probably true....but....with bottled water
so cheap and plentiful, WHY GAMBLE!!!!!!

Take a taxi into town, ask for the Mercado San Francisco--a
huge supermarket--and load up on bottled water.

To shower in or *maybe* to even to brush your teeth with, the
local water may be okay; otherwise, either buy bottled or
further purify the water yoruself by boiling.

ENJOY!!!
