We are going to be arriving in Athens mid-day on October 5th and leaving mid-day
on October 14th and would like to see as many Aegean islands as possible in that
short time period. We like to see historic sights and areas of great natural
beauty to photograph, but have no interest in beaches or night life. I was
considering Santorini, Naxos, Paros, Mykonos and Crete but am open to
suggesions. I would like to see Rhodes and Lesbos but don't think there would
be nearly enough time. I would appreciate suggestions on the most efficient
itinerary and best way to reach such islands at reasonable expense in order to
cover these or other appropriate islands which would have the most historic
sights and naturual beauty. Efaristo poli!

Drop the idea of Paros, Naxos and Mykonos, to many tourists, beaches but
no scenery, maybe keep Santorini for the new excavations, add Ikaria,
Samos and Patmos. Rail to Piraeus, ferry to the islands unless you have
enough money for the planes.

Personally I think that you are trying to fit too much in at one time, 7
days is not enough as many of the ferry trips eat a day and make that a
day and a half to Kriti.

Samos is the birthplace of Pythagoras, has the temple of Ireon and the
oldest aquaduct in the world, but is mainly known for its great natural
beauty, rivers that flow all year, wine and honey.

You could just go straight to Kriti and spend all your time there, there
is enough to keep you busy, it is a big island.

If you are just looking for antiquities, Athens and Olympia can keep you
busy.

If you want to go to Lesbos, you might fit in Skopelos too and a trip to
Thessaloniki on the mainland.

I lived in Greece for two years and traveled from Kerkira (Corfu), and
ended up on Samos.

Para kalos
