We're thinking of going to Venezuela / Colombia in November. How
expensive are they? Relative to Ecuador / Bolivia or more at the
Argentina / Chile level? All recommendations of places to go gratefully
received!!

Best place in Venezuela is the plane to another country like Costa Rica,
Brasil or Mexico. I'm not kidding. There is very little reason for the
tourist to go there. I assume you are tourists. You did not state the
purpose of your trip. If you are interesteed in oil production then
Venezuela could be nice.

Any chance of being a little more specific? So what exactly is wrong with
the place? Is it just dull or dangerous or what? What were you expecting from
a holiday? Different folks look for different things and I can hardly believe
that the entire country is given over to oil production - it's a pretty big
place.

Neil & Shirley: I'm going to Venezuala & Colombia in about two weeks time
for 3 weeks or so - I'll try to let you know how it turns out.

I have to disagree. I just took a 2 week vacation to Venezuela in July
and I loved it. Of course I had never been out of the US before, so I
cannot compare it with the likes of Costa Rica, Brasil, or Mexico.

There is a lot more to Venezuela than oil production. I found that
the best aspects of Venezuela are its people and it natural beauty.
The people of Venezeula are incredibly friendly and a pleasure to be
with. The only rude people that I came across worked for the airlines
(I flew Sirvivensa.) As far as natural beauty, Venezuela has some
wonderful beaches and waterfalls and of course the Amazon. In fact,
two weeks was certainly not enough time to see everything I wanted to
see but it's all the vacation I get. :(

My experience may have been so pleasurable because I was visiting
some Venezuelan friends. Perhaps they kept me away from all the bad
aspects and showed me only the good. Anyway, from my limited perspective,
Venezuela is a nice place and hopefully I'll be headed back there sometime
soon.
