If you are going to stay in a hotel in the Hotel Zone, you should have no
problem getting a bus from the hotel to pick you up for free. Though the
public transportation is cheap around the Hotel Zone, I don't know if it
extends to the airport. Unfortunately, the taxis charge rates almost as
much as in the US or Western Europe; what you spend on a 20 km taxi ride
to downtown, you can get a bus ticket to get you from Cancun to Mexico
City.

But on the other hand, getting TO the airport is easy. The airport is
located about 2 km of the coastal highway. If you are travelling from
south (e.g. Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Chetumal, Belize, etc) get a ticket
to Cancun, and ask the driver to let you off at the airport turn off,
which is easy to spot, since it is the only highway overpass on the
Yucatan peninsula. If you are travelling to the airport from downtown
Cancun, just buy a ticket to the first stop, and get the driver to let you
off at the overpass. Then it is just an easy walk to the terminal.

Taxi is the only way I know to get from Airport to CC City -- ie Centro
Camionero. Buses ren all the time to signifncant points. Beach Express
runs about every hour as I recall down the coast to Puerto Morelos, Playa
del Carmen, Tulum, etc. I think it is behind the bus station proper.
Taxis are always available for travel around the town, to Hotel Row, or
other points outside of town for a price -- agree upon it first before
going-- the great majority of cabbies are honest folks and their fares
are usually very good to other destinations like Playa del Carmen, etc.
You can dicker -- they don't mind and expect it. You could probably get
a taxi to PdC for around $25 from Camionera. Buses go to Merida, Chichen
Itza, and all other points with frequent departures. Get at least first
class or deluxe. No need to take the chicken bus. All buses are cheap
by our standards, so why take the 'milk run'.

Buena suerte,
Norm
