Hi,

My travel agent has recommended that I visit Iquitos (rather than
Manaus, Brazil) for jungle tours as it is better preserved and the
wildlife is more accessible.

Can someone recommend a good tour company and/or suggest things I
should see while I am there( I've heard about the elevated walkway)?

Alternatively, is there a better place to see the Amazon?

Thanks in Advance

I used International Expeditions to visit several lodges NE of Iquitos
off the Amazon and Napo Rivers, canopy walkway included. I wa VERY
pleased with their performance as to price and quality. You can reach
them at 1-800-633-4734. They also have a web site, believe it is www.
internatinalexpeditions.com. Good Luck! Tad in VA

Dekka,
I've just returned from a trip including Iquitos. Iquitos is a fascinating
city - go there. We stayed 4 nights at the relatively new Cumaceba lodge
(Putumayo 184, tel 232229); only 35 Km from Iquitos, but lots to see and do
in primary forest reserve; we virtually had a guide to ourselves, he was
good, and tailored a program to our needs. It was a bit basic, but
relatively inexpensive - it depends what you want. Orellana also was
recommended (Putumayo 149, tel 223104), a bit further afield, but I can't
comment personally on this one. I'd be glad to discuss by e-mail if you
require.

Hello, I traveled with Maniti Expeditions to visit the rainforest around Iquitos, the lodge was located 75 km downriver from the city on the main amazon river. My wife and I saw all kinds of wildlife, we were VERY happy with their service all around. The web site is www.manitiexpeditions.com
