We have decided to take the train and ferry, (from Holyhead). We are
in no hurry and it looks like fun.

We have a car reserved from Budget, the following day, at Lower
Drumcondra Road. We just need a place to stay for the night in that
area. I guess we will need to take a cab to the hotel and hopefully we
can walk to the car rental.

After the bus trip, we will be staying at the Kensington Close hotel.
It will be early Sunday morning, so I guess we will have to take a cab
to the Euston train station.

It is too bad, the last trip we were on, we stayed at the
Thistle-Euston. Right next door to the train station.

Does anyone have any idea how much a taxi would cost from the
Kensington Close hotel to the Euston station?

Since you're not in a hurry, taking the train from London to Holyhead,
you might consider a stop on the route. There is a direct train from
Euston, or you could stop in Chester for the Chester Rows, Roman
ruins, cathedral and the most photographed clock in England (after Big
Ben).

www.bargaintraveleurope.com/07/UK_Chester_Rows_Cathedral_Cheshire.htm

or in Conwy, Wales, an easy walk from the train station to Conwy
Castle and Plas Mawr, or stay over at the Castle Hotel in Conwy with
the Dawson's Shakespeare paintings.

www.bargaintraveleurope.com/09/Wales_Castle_Hotel_Conwy.htm
www.bargaintraveleurope.com/09/Wales_Plas_Mawr_Conwy.htm

Or you could stop in Bangor, Wales, for Caernarvon or Beaumaris with
the castle and gaol.

In Dublin, Drumconda Road and the Budget Rental office is near Croke
Park Stadium and about 5 blocks north of the Drumcondra rail station.
There are hotels around there, though might be a bit more than walking
distance and its a bit out of the way for city strolling. The city bus
lines run along Drumcondra. You could also take the city bus from the
ferry terminal into central Dublin, see the city, then muni bus or cab
up Drumcondra in the morning.

For a bit of an upscale alternative, Clontaf Castle Hotel is not far,
off of Howth Rd. A bus runs by there, but cab would be easiest. Or you
could get the car first. For driving around Ireland, get the GPS with
the rental car. You'll be glad you did.

I understand you're heading to Wicklow. With a car you could avoid the
old town and stop out at either Jameson Whiskey Tour or the Guinness
Storehouse on the way south from the city, they're a bit out of the
congestion and both have parking. Careful of the drinking, though. If
you stop at Jameson and park in Smithfield, the Collins Barracks can
be included on foot.

Have a nice trip.

Cathy,

Why do you keep asking about taxis? I travel all over and it is really rare
that the only option is to take a taxi. Taxis will always be the most
expensive option. Do you bring along so much luggage? I can travel for
weeks (in warm weather) with only carry on. I just plan on a wash about
every six days.

Just to know, since I'm missing from the UK since a long time, will the
typical (medium-size city) train station still have left luggage
facilities ?

I personally thing that a stop for a few hours it's a great way to visit
places, but not if I have luggage (even a carry-on). Unfortunately in
Italy the majority of stations (including those in province capitals
managed by Centostazioni) have closed their left luggage facilities.

Don,

The big reason for the need of a taxi for this streach is that we are
"senior citizens" and we would be traveling around 6:30-7:00am on a
Sunday morning. We will also have a months worth or luggage.

Michael,

We would love to make a stop or two along the way, but I believe I
read that we can't do that for this fare.

We will have just completed this bus tour the day before.

That does look like a pretty good deal. Sometimes travel is a trade
off between
cost and experience. That fare is from any station in Britain for any
time of ferry
available. You could get a seperate direct seniors ticket to a stop,
then take that fare.
Or spend a little extra time exploring Dublin.

Go out to Howth or Malahide, see the Book of Kells.

www.bargaintraveleurope.com/09/Ireland_Book_of_Kells_Dublin.htm

I try to avoid taxis as well if I can, but in some situations their
just easier with luggage.

Michael,

We will be renting a car in Dublin and driving around for two weeks.
Then flying home from Shannon.

The last time we were in Ireland was in 2001. We were in a shop next
door from where my grandfather was born. The address is 43 Francis
Street, in Dublin. As we were talking, the owner's frined came running
in and said, "put the radio on, Paul, something terrible has happened
in America". That was on September 11.
