I think that is called an upsell.

We have a balcony on the Viking sailing and were offered a suite for
$149.more per person. Since I had asked Kerry to book a specific balcony on
the very mid-stern, the same one we had on our Mediterranean cruise on the
Westerdam, I did not think it was worth it to accept.
Two weeks from tonight we will have our first sea day and formal night,
y'all!!! Eeh Haa!

>I think that is called an upsell.
Hi Charles,
You are correct. This is exactly what it says on my computer screen
when the cruise line wants to increase their revenue. Sometimes they
even offer the TA a little something for their effort. <:+)

Less than two weeks to go and there are suites and balconies available.
Interesting.
Does a suite get you into their concierge lounge? That is something to
consider.

If it's in the $100 range... that's half the price of a round of golf in
Bermuda. I don't care what you call it at that price point. When we booked
originally, a balcony was $700 more. Even if it's $300 to move up, I ain't
movin'... but $130? Works for me.
I assume you moved up also?
--Tom
For $300 more total price I don't blame you. My total was $131 ($65pp).
Figured why not at that price.

I did. Since I was in an inside cabin and the upsell price was under
$200. As you say the prices for balconies were high when we originally
booked. That is why I passed on a balcony back then. The balcony I am
now booked in now, a VA, was priced at $1060 more than the inside J
cabin I booked back then although I could have gotten a cheaper cat. VD
balcony for "only" $800 more. The pricing change seems rather insane.
It has been almost a year since we booked but I seem to recall you were
hoping for an opportunity like this. I didn't really expect it
though.....

Hi Charles,
This is the softest time of the year. We see this kind of price drop
almost every year and this year is no exception.

Charles, Holland America does not, to my knowledge, have concierge lounge.

It seems that they reward their suite passengers with double points for
their cruise along with the amenities that they mention in the above link.
We enjoyed that particular balcony so much on our previous cruise on the
Westerdam that I was really happy when Kerry was able to secure it for us
again. It would have had to be a real upgrade at no cost to a suite that
"might" have made us reconsider. This will be our fifth cruise with HAL, so
we are only two star Mariners.
--Jean
It's not a busy week... and I'd have been happy in my obs view cabin. But
for a week that's not busy, there's always a chance. The same thing
happened for our QM2 sailing. The price dropped after final payment. That
time I moved to a balcony without paying more (though in 2 steps, first to
an obstructed balcony, then a regular balcony). This time I had to pay a
little. I think this was too good a deal to pass up. Any sailing that's
not summer or holiday there's always a chance. Hey, you even found that big
price reduction for our Norway summer sailing. And that WAS peak summer
season.
Ermalee
Call Sue or Kerry. Sue was able to get one for Charles too.
--Tom
Ermalee
She has to call and request it. Sue called for Charles.
>HAL didn't offer one for me.
Hi Ermalee,
Your travel agent can call and secure this for you if it is still
available.
It wasn't free. I did have to pay $131.

So what's the Neptune lounge that I'm sitting in as I write this? Key
card access for full suite passengers only. Full Concierge service
provided by 2 full time staff members when open and 24 hour a day phone
service.

Perhaps if you cruise another 50 days or so on HAL you will stumble past
the Neptune Lounge, not that it will help get you inside.
But for me, there was no offer of an upsell. Sheeesh!
