I was just reading a post on CruiseCritic from a person who posted a review
of her trip on her trip on the Star Princess in April.
http://messages.cruisecritic.com/2/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=927093444&f=887097554&m=351105252

She posted her review on CruiseCritic .
http://messages.cruisecritic.com/2/OpenTopic?a=tpc&f=069097554&m=726107981

While browsing around the internet the other day found her review word for
word except the first paragraph deleted posted on Cruisemates by someone
named Dennis.
http://www.cruisemates.com/articles/memreviews/princess/star32.cfm

I have heard of people taking a persons review to post on a review site
without asking but never heard of someone taking your review and passing it
off as their own.

So my question is: "What would motivate someone to do that?"

Reminds me of the old joke

Billy, your book report is exactly the same, almost word for word, as your
sisters was two years ago when she got an A.

Why teacher, of course it was, it was the same book.

Bill, Thanks so much for discovering this! You are correct, it is word for
word the same review with only the personal ID deleted. I am now checking to
see who stole which review and should it appear that "Dennis" plagiarized it
we will delete this review from our website. I am sure Cruise Critic will
also be doing some checking and I am also sure they will take action if that
review was plagiarized. We want reviews just like any other website but we
only want those that are written by themselves and I am sure other websites,
(at least the reputable ones), feel the same way.

I doubt it would be DPH unless it's an extremely negative review and
concentrates on how cruisers are "sheeple" who make too much noise by taking
helicopter excursions in Juneau.

Should be easy to figure out - the Cruise Critic review has a time and date
stamp on the posting. The question is when did the Cruisemate review post.

you got that right! i wouldn't bother stealing any of the
glowing "reviews" folks write for those self indulgent websites.
if i posted anything it would be a parody of the goobers and
sheeple beind herded around and getting fleeced by the cruise
lines.

The subject could/should have read "Why would ANYONE steal (plagiarize, even
if not verbatim) someone's written article of any kind?"

The answer is simple: Unethical and shameless quest for recognition on
someone else's creation."

Given the large number of unethical, sysfunctional posters in newsgroups,
the only surprise is that plagiarism is not committed more frequently
than it has been noted.

I know it's apples and oranges, but each time anyone uses cut and paste (like
in just about every usenet newsgroup posting) it could be construed as a boost.
Plus things get alot more twisty each time the boosting is recycled.

This is nothing new, two posts I made to this newsgroup were hijacked and put
on two cruise sites:travelmb.com and cruises-cruises-and-cruises.com

Could very well be, I was thinking the same thing.

Jim,
You submit your review directly to the techy guy at Cruisemates and he
puts it up on the website. Go to www.cruisemates.com and click on the
reviews box and it explains how to submit the review. Quite easy actually.
Also my real e-mail now is jimb...@cruisemates.comremove and all you have
to do is remove the remove. <G> The other one was getting too much spam and
garbage so I do not use it or even look at it anymore.

Sue, the woman said something about being a single mother. I thought about
that as well but that line seemed to indicate there was no relation. I have
not heard from this "Dennis" as of yet either. If I don;t hear from him in a
reasonable time I will request it be pulled as being a fake review which we
do not allow.

Guess that blows my idea, I didn't know that the review had been written
by a single mother. Glad to hear that you will pull the review, if need be.

Is THAT what several posters called your USEFUL INFORMATION often
posted in this newsgroup on cruising?

It's okay to write "shit", you know. Much better than your disguised
ADS which is shit and shitty!

> --

Hey EVERYBODY!!!

Ray Goldhaber can actually make a vacuous and shitty post WITHOUT
posting his TRAVEL AGENCY, phone numbers and webpage, for spamming
purposes.

Wonders never cease!

I suppose we can generalize that to one's OWN creation -- a TRAVEL AGENCY,
and spam it in newsgroups.

Oooops! My apologies to Ray Goldenberg that in my preceding follow-up
to Dick Goldhaber's post, I had mistaken HIM (Goldenberg) to be
Goldhaber.

This time, the shitty one was GoldHABER. :-)

All that's shitty ain't GOLDenberg. :-))
