I miss 'em. We got elephant thingys and a teddy bear thingy on our last
cruise, but I miss them swan thingys.

Sigh. Pass the medicinal shrimp, please. I need something to settle my
nerves.

Do you know that first my wife and I and then Danni and I cruised for 20
years without ever knowing what the "Swan Thingy" was.

It could be because we never left anything that had to be "doggy bagged". :(

I just got off the Norweigan Sky (charter) and was very upset there were no
towel animals. The staff told me they are a Royal Caribbean specialty. Sure
enough, my only other cruise (with towel monkeys, etc each night) was on the
Radiance.

DP-c,

Are you implying that the "Swan Thingee" (tm) is not being served on
Celebrity? I am looking forward to a swan thingy real-soon...

I think the term "Swan Thingy" usually refers to a dessert served on
Celebrity ships - a puff pastry, in the shape of a swan, filled with creme
or custard, as I remember.

Ira:

We never left any of them either. : )

Crème Patisserie. And, unless I decide to get really, really creative
tomorrow, none for me for another 6 months.

They have the same thing on Princess and they are so good.

Are you all talking about the swan thingees that were always the hit
on Celebrity? I don't know if they still have them but I'll find out
in May when I'm on the Infinity to Honolulu.

Arlene <---doesn't like them because they usually are custard filled

I would prefer they took better care of the cabin than make towel
animals. The two cabin attendents I liked the least were on RCI and did
great towel animals. The best cabin attendent I had on RCI did not do
towel animals. On Celebrity and Princess which are considered upscale
they don't do towel animals. I beleive I have read in reviews that they
do towel animals on Carnival.

Celebrity still has the "swan thingee". It's a cream puff shaped like a swan,
filled with custard and swimming on a lake of chocolate sauce. mmmm!

They go back a long way. I first saw them on the German Atlantic Line's
Hanseatic in 1968.

Yes. Arlene... Celebrity still has those Swan Thingees... as disgusting as
ever.

Puff pastry was never meant to be served cold... it gets soggy.

And that "pastry cream" blech.......

Is it a ship-wide policy, or is it up to the individual room steward

down, will not.

The most impressive towel animals I experienced were on Carnival - very
creatively done.

On Windjammer, we actually had some fancy towel folding. One day they were
stingrays, one day a sail boat - can't remember the other days, but they
were cutely done.

So, getting back to the Swan Thingees (not sure how this thread evolved
into towel animals anyway), taking my first Celebrity cruise in August,
and am hoping that the Swan Thingees will make an appearance at some point
- their reputation is legend.

I thought it was more of a profiterole - choux paste cream puff type of
thing. Puff pastry is the flaky stuff. Is that what you mean?

Custard cream?

I have not alway had towel animals on RCI so they might encourage it
but not require it. Someone told me that they have instructions on how
to make towel animals on the crew bulletion boards. I have never had a
towel animal on Celebrity or Princess so I suspect that those lines
discourage them.

I had one once. I don't care for them. I have seen the Swan Things on
the other cruise lines. They are not unique to Celebrity.

Sorry Charlie, but they DO make them.
They just don't like you.

Never had one either on Celebrity or on our one Princess cruise. I
think we did have them on HAL.
