Just off the Dream
Paul Krause
Cruise was fun in spite of 67MPH winds and very rough seas followed by
dense fog. Probably worst weekend of the year to cruise, but as I always
say... There is no such thing as a bad cruise.
BUT the ship's design is not one I'd go back too. Uncovered Promenade
below the balconies is just poor judgement. Rest of ship it typical
Carnival. As always great food.
And surprisingly, even shockingly.... NO BINGO!

cheer! I have to ask what was wrong with the ship's captain that he
couldn't steer clear of the high winds and rough seas?

There really was no where to go. The storm was south, east and moving
east and north. No way to get away. The initial plan was to go south and
spend the day off NC, but the waves and winds in he open ocean and
especially south of us were worse.

Thanks for the photo's .I watch you go out .Not the best cruise
weather wise ! Almost booked the 8 day cruise over Thanksgiving out
of NYC .It was for nothing $1300 for everything for 2 .I can"t believe
they still had space left !!

Saw Sandy Koufax pitch in a Sunday doubleheader at the Polo Grounds against
the "Amazin's"... sitting in an obstructed view seat (behind a column)... I
remember a dozen guys around us smoking horrible smelling cigars.... that's
what's most frozen on my brain. Other than Koufax, the column blocking my
view and cigar smoke, I don't remember anything about the game.

That really cool Tom .My brother saw the NY Tightens first game at the
Polo grounds ! I think they had the same uniforms the Jets use now tho
back one"s My brother was also at the double header against the
Giants .The 2nd game that went i think 23 inning"s !

As I recall, compared to Shea, the old Polo Grounds was a rust bucket. It
had been sitting idle a number of years. Old, cramped (tiny seats with no
leg room), with old, rusty columns blocking many views.

Nope... way to long ago. I can clearly remember getting to Shea though,
following the "blue arrow" out of Port Authority. But I was a little older
then. I remember it better because we did that so many times for so many
years. We sat in the upper deck at Shea using 10 Bordens Milk coupons for 1
free admission. I went all the time with my grandmother. Sunday afternoon
doubleheaders.

About the only thing I really know about baseball is that I lived within
walking distance of Ebbits Field and "those bums left us".lol
The Worlds Fair in Flushing Meadow is more my speed and I have fond
memories of going there. Guess I was in my early 20s back then.
Although I am not a baseball fan, I remember when they were building
Shea Stadium. We lived in Brooklyn and very often drove to see friends
in Flushing and always passed Shea Stadium.

Hi Sue the new Citifield on the outside looks like Ebbits field .How
for did you live from Ebbits field ? My uncle who pass away a few
years back was a big Bums fan .He lived in Hoboken NJ and went to 2 to
3 games a week, when they was home ! He became a Mets fan after a few
yaers . They broke his hart !! But he did see them play at the
Roosevelt startum .in Jersay city I think 56 or 57 not sure .Thay play
a alot of games there before they moved to LA !!

Ken, where is the new Citifield? I was maybe 6 or 8 blocks away from
Ebbits field from 1958 to 1966. I don't remember what year they won the
world series, but I do remember all the cars going round the
neighborhood blowing their horns. Not being a base ball fan, I never
went to see a game at Ebbits field, but still being born and raised in
Brooklyn and living so close to them, I felt deserted when they left
Brooklyn.

Hi Sue Citifield is where Shea use to be . They tore down Shea
already .We have a brick on the Fan walk at Citifield it right outside
of the front gate ! It say"s (Let"s Go Mets the Gerbehy family from
Weehawken NJ ) We also got a brick from Shea ! I can"t believe you
lived that closs and never went to Ebbits field ! Was anybody in your
family a Dorgers fan ?

Thats right, I knew Shea was torn down, but didn't know the name of the
new stadium. One of Kevin's co-workers is a huge Mets fan and always get
season tickets. I understand he actually bought the seats he had sat in,
has a pc of the wall etc. No one in my family was interested in
baseball, guess we weren't sports people.

Anyway I have two seats from Shea in my family room. Have Sat season
plan at Citi but probably won't renew this year. Citi is nice, but it's
not Shea! With HD TV, I'd rather save my ballpark money for cruising!

I'm sure your tickets weren't cheap, I don't blame you for not renewing....
puts things into perspective compared to when I had the "Sunday Borden's
milk coupon season plan"... All it cost us was the bus ride and the subway
ride.
I haven't been to Citi, but I have been to the New Yankee Stadium once...
not for a game, it was for my son Jonathan's graduation from NYU this past
spring. The kids in their purple gowns had the whole lower level, and the
parents were in the upper levels.

the most expensive seats were field level at $4
My dad would give me $11 and I could take a bus from Jersey City hop on
the 7, get an upper deck seat and some food for that amount. My how
