The cover story in this month's Conde Nast Traveler is "112 Best Travel
Agents" including 16 in the cruise category.

None of the ta's who waste their time posting here made the list.

Here is a sample from the "more affordable" category....

Judy Lucas, Concierge Cruises and Tours, Tuscon.
Lucas understands the differences among such mid-market lines as
Celebrity, HAL, Princess and RCL. She's also an excellent resource for
those with physical restrctions or health concerns. 800-940-8385

Nancy Kelly, Kelly Cruises, Oak Brook, IL
In addition to Alaska voyages on big ships, her specialties are group
sailings and theme cruises. 630-990-1111

Paul Niskanen, Cruise Masters, Beaverton, OR
Niskanen is your best bet for Baltic cruises. His private and small
group shore tours surpass any ship's offerings. 800-633-2732

Wow, sixteen out of all in the country are good and the rest are bad. By
the way, you list from the more affordable category, not the best service.
There is a difference.

Is this in next month's, August, because I did not notice this article in
July issue?? Also wondering does it say how these results were
statistically obtained?? Or is it just people who read the magazine and
wrote in to say they liked THEIR agent best.........

That makes it even better, personal experience from the writer. Typical
magazine, totally scientific study, the agents one person uses. Let me
guess, some of them even have full page ads in the magazine for the first
time this month? The ASTA has over 24,000 members, there isn't any way one
person can base the best on their experiences.

Have to agree. I have been "interviewed", etc, etc, by magazines that we
placed ads in (not travel ones, but marine industry or insurance related). I
also know the other persons interviewed for same articles. "Books" have a
tightrope to walk. They have to survive on ad revenue, and can't go too hard
(why would one advertise and spend money on a publication that says he/she
sucks).

Hey, maybe some of us should be proud for not making that list.

Besides, how do they name the best when they have not tried every agency?

I'll have to take a look at the issue mentioned, but, if you were one of the
advertisers, how would you feel if you were not on the list? You would place
an angry call, and perhaps move your business. Especially if the author never
even called your firm :)

Regards, Keith

She says she is impressed by these agents but she keeps changing them for
someone else... several hundred agents in 13 years.

I wonder what someone would have to do to impress her enough to get her
repeat business?

These 'best of' lists in Conde Nast pretty much suck.

Interpreted: This list of TA's who know I write for a major travel magazine

Most of the TA's that post on this board provide more USEFUL information
in one week than the other 'regulars' fro this group will provide in a
lifetime.
Hats off to Ray, George,Lori and Cal.
At least they don't WASTE their time worried about the cost of skate
rental and when and where to drink their wine.
